The Canary Who Broke Its Wings

As Oliver's words started to blur & fade, she sat there in her chair. Her body sat still whilst her lip quivered and tears streamed down her face. The only thing running through her mind, Sara's gone, she's dead.

It took a moment for her to register what Oliver was saying. At first, she thought he meant she's gone back to the league of assassins again, but no, he meant gone.As in never coming back type of gone. As Felicity turned her head, she saw all the training equipment, Sara used to spar there with everyone. Sara was trying to teach me to fight. She watched as Roy, Oliver & Diggle sat there expressionless.

Suddenly it all felt like it was too much, her lungs were being squashed, her throat tight, her stomach twisted. She had to get out of there, she packed up all her stuff and left before anyone could stop her.

When she got home, she threw all her stuff beside the door. When she walked into the living room she saw the picture Roy took of them just months prior, they were trying to tango and they both collapsed on the floor laughing. As Felicity takes in the picture one vibrant smile matching the other she realised she will never see that smile again. That sudden glimpse of reality felt like a bowling ball to the stomach, she slide down the wall landing on the floor in a heap and began crying hysterically.

That's how Oliver found her 3 hours later, no words were spoken as he lifted her up and carried her to bed. Once Oliver had lay down beside her, she spoke up. "She's gone" it was barely audible but Oliver heard, "I know" he said.

"I miss her Oliver" "I do too, we all do" "I feel like she's gonna come back and make everything okay, but I know she can't come back from the dead. She has already cashed that token in" "Felicity, I know you guys were close bu-" "NO, She was the closest thing to family I know, she was my best friend" "I'm sorry, I just don't know what to say" "Did you know we were trying to organise a trip to the beach? Just team Arrow, Sara was so excited" "Felicity, after Tommy died there was so much I still needed to tell him. So every time I had news or needed to speak to him I would sit beside his headstone & speak as if he was right there beside me. You should try it, get everything out in the open." "Yea, maybe goodnight Oliver" "Night Felicity"

An hour passed and Felicity was still sitting in the dark with Oliver snoring lightly beside her. She couldn't get Oliver's words out of her head. When she got up out of bed the movement woke Oliver but she didn't notice. As she stood by the window gazing out to the starry night, Oliver swears he could hear her whisper,

"I never got to tell her I loved her"
