A/N: this is something I wrote a while ago that's supposed to take place rigt after Ark of truth, but unfortunately the movie kind of ruined it. Oh well, I like it too much not to post it. Hope you enjoy it too!

Daniel walked into his office, and was surprised to see Vala sitting at his desk. She sat there with her shoulders slumped, elbows on the desk, and her head in her hands. Daniel was about to ask what was wrong, when she sighed and sat up, bringing her hands down from her face. She noticed him out of the corner of her eye, and turned to him.

"Hi, Daniel." She said in a soft voice, avoiding his eyes.

"Vala, what's wrong?"

"Nothing, I- I've just got a lot on my mind right now. Sorry for being in here. I'll go…" She got up to leave, but Daniel gently grabbed her wrist and made he face him.

"Hey, you don't have to leave. You can tell me," he raised her chin so that her eyes met his. They were sad and unsure, something new for Vala. He continued, "Tell me."

She pulled away from him and walked back over to the stool she had been sitting on. She sat down facing him.

"It's Tomin."

"What about him?" Daniel asked.

"He," she paused, "He asked me to go back to Ver Isca with him."

"And you're considering it?" Daniel accused more than asked, "Vala, I- I thought you only married him to cover up your pregnancy. I didn't think you actually, I mean – Do you love him?"

Vala met his eyes, "In a way… but not like a wife should love her husband."

"Well then, why are you even thinking about it? Just tell him the truth, and tell him you want to stay here."

"I did. He told me that I'm his wife, and that I should be willing to go with him. Now that he's healed, he wants to start a family."

"Yes, but Vala, do you want that?"

She looked him in the eye, "yes."

Daniel was surprised by her answer, "really?"

"really." She replied softly.

He was silent a few moments before starting again.

"Vala, I thought you said this was your home. What about Sam, and Cam, and Teal'c? Think of how they'll feel if you leave. And- and you're part of our team, we need you!" Daniel spoke softly and passionately.

"Yes, but Daniel, do you need me?"

Daniel was silent. He was completely bewildered by the question.

"That's what I thought." She stated. A tear slid down her cheek. She was heading for the door when Daniel finally saw what was happening. He knew that if she walked out of the room right now, she'd be walking out of his life forever, and he couldn't live with that.

"Vala, wait!" he called. She stopped.

"What, Daniel?" she asked without turning around.

He walked over to her and put his hand on her shoulder, "Look at me."

She turned around slowly, but kept her head dropped. He lifted her chin and made her eyes meet his. He slowly bent forward and softly kissed her. She let out a small whimper. When he pulled back, his eyes were filled with so much affection. He caressed he cheek with his thumb.

"Vala, I do need you, much more than I'd like to admit. And I'm sorry it took me so long to tell you, I just, I can't stand the thought of loosing you, again."

A tear slid down her cheek which he wiped away with his thumb. Vala smiled at him and said softly, "I'll go tell Tomin that it's over between us."

"I'll go with you," he said, and upon her questioning look he continued, "for moral support.

She smiled at him again, and he took her hand as they walked out of his office, together.
