I started this a few days ago. I feel rushed to get it out considering what unfolded during tonight's finale.
"I'm just curious do you even wonder when you became the very thing you're afraid of?"
Paige's words stung, and for a brief moment Mona was forced to see herself, who she used to be and who she had become. Mona wasn't ready to come face to face with that person just yet. She quickly found her composure and thought, "Who does this bitch think she is?" She opened her mouth and was ready to let Paige have it, but before she could even catch her breath, Paige was gone. Mona took a quick look around, brushed her skirt smooth, pulled her purse up on her shoulder, and continued on her way to Mike Montgomery's house.
She paused at the foot of the steps leading up to the modest house. She took a deep breath, lifted her head high, and marched to ring the doorbell. Before she could even push the button the large, wooden door swung open.
"Home by 10:00, got it!" Aria shouted behind her as she exited the home. Mona took a step back. Aria spun her head around and noticed the girl in front of her for the first time. "Whoa! What are you doing here?" she asked startled.
"Hello, Aria." Mona said menacingly. "I see you're on your way out. Don't let me hold you up."
"Yeah, okay." Aria said as she brushed past Mona. She really was running late and didn't have time nor the patience to play one of Mona's cryptic games. Mona shrugged her shoulders and walked into the house, closing the door behind her.
"Mike? Hello!" she called out. Mike rounded the corner and appeared in the foyer.
"Hey, you! I thought you weren't coming over until later?" He questioned.
"Plans change." she said, grabbing his arm. "Come on, let's go to your room." She led him up the stairs.
To Mona it never felt weird being inside the Montgomery house. It always felt… necessary. Mona had learned years ago that the best defense is a good offense. That was a tip given to her by her mortal enemy, Alison DiLaurentis, the night she helped Ali disappear. Was that the night that everything changed? She began trying to pinpoint the exact moment, when all of the sudden she was startled by Mike blowing into a bright, orange whistle next to her right ear. Mona quickly turned her head and swatted at the whistle.
"What are you doing, trying to make me go deaf?" she yelled.
"I was trying to get your attention. I was talking to you for five minutes before I realized I was talking at you." he answered.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I guess I zoned out. I have a lot on my mind."
"What were you thinking about?" He sat down next to her on the bed. The two sat silent for a moment and Mona stared straight ahead.
"She's pure evil, you know." Mike arched an eyebrow seemingly having no idea where this conversation was going. "Alison DiLaurentis," she continued. "She was never a good person. She's incapable of good. Everything she says or does is fueled by some hidden motive. She will do whatever is necessary to save herself, even if it means taking down the rest of us. Anything bad that has happened in this town can be traced back to her."
Mike shifted on the bed pulling his left foot up underneath his right leg. "Where is this all coming from?" he asked genuinely.
Mona turned her head to the right to look Mike in the eyes. "I ran into Paige before I came over here. She asked me if I knew when I became the thing I'm afraid of."
"But you're not afraid of anything!" Mike interrupted, attempting to lighten the mood.
"Silly, silly boy. You have no idea about what lies beyond that pearly white picket fence. There is a whole world of evil, and it was created by her. She's playing a game, and it won't end until one of us is dead."
