"Hey," he says as she opens the door. It's raining and thundering and lightning outside. He's shivering. He walked here from the hotel – stupid ass that he is.
"Hi, Dean," she answers. The sleep in her eyes is obvious. "Have that nightmare again?"
He nods. "Yeah." He's been in the same town for the past month since Sam saw his domestic bliss fantasy but missed out on his evil self.
"Come on in," she tells him, standing aside. He's welcome here; he knows it. So he steps in and looks around. He does this every time he's at her house because she always decorates something different. This time it's the new photo of her brother and his wife. "You want warm milk?"
"No; I'm okay," he answers, following her into the kitchen.
She turns, perching herself against the countertop. "What do you need then?"
He shrugs and she knows the answer: a little normality. "Come on. I'll warm the shower for you. You left some clothes here the other day anyway." He just follows her into her room upstairs; watches as she turns on the shower in the master bath and lays out clothes and towels for him.
He takes a shower. It's kind of quick, but he wants to get back to that sense of safety he feels when he's around her. He steps out of the bathroom and into her bedroom, feeling the warmth go to coolness. He sees her outline in bed and he slides under the covers, snuggling up to her.
She turns toward him. "What'd you dream about this time?"
He waits a second before answering, "My body. I was a demon."
"Black eyes again?" He nods. "You won't turn out like that, Dean. Sam will figure something out."
"I hope so," he whispers, looking away.
She makes him look at her. "I know so, Dean."
"Okay," he answers. She gives him this sense of normal, this sense of relaxation. It's something he never got with his bastard father – only with Bobby every now and then. So he takes as much of it as he can.
She turns over and starts to drift off to sleep when he whispers, "Thanks, Lisa." And she knows that him being around Ben and her isn't such a bad idea.
