"Lt Kate Janeway reporting for duty sir." I said when I entered
Sickbay.
Chief Medical Officer John Harris turned around and looked at me.
"Janeway huh? Are you related to Captain Janeway of the USS Voyager?
He asked.
I blushed a little and said, "She's my mother, sir."
The CMO walked over to me and said "I though so, you look exactly
like her when she took her first post. I understand you are only
temporarily here?"
"Yes sir, I am awaiting my ship assignment to come thru." I said to
the CMO.
"Well Ensign, how much Sickbay time do you have? I understand that
you have a science back ground as well?"
"Sir, I did my residency on Jupiter's moon Europa. I was there for
four years. I also worked in the research facility on an experiment
that allows all oxygen breathing humanoids to be able to go to
uninhabitable planets."
"Oh really? How is that coming along Ensign?" The CMO asked.
"Well sir, we have a long way to go, but it is possible."
"Will you keep me updated after you reach your post? I am interested
in seeing this work."
The CMO showed me around the sickbay and then told me to report back
at 0630 hours. I headed to the mess hall for a quick lunch and then
back to my quarters to unpack my bags. I was looking forward to
working with Dr. Harris, but I was looking forward even more to my
first ship assignment.
My quarters were in a section that was not built when I was at the
Academy, and were much nicer than the Academy Dorms I had lived in
for four years. The new quarters had the latest replication and
computer system.
I put the last of my belongings away and decided I had better contact
my parents and let them know I made it here. My mother was now
teaching about the Delta Quadrant at Starfleet.
"Computer open a commlink to Admiral Kathryn Janeway"

"this is Admiral Janeway" she said
"Mother, its Kate. I am sorry I am just now getting a hold of you, I
have been busy all morning," I said.
"Its ok, Katie. Did you find your quarters ok? A lot has changed
since you went here." The admiral said.
"No kidding. I like Dr Harris a lot. He said I look a lot like you
when you took your first post. He knew I was your daughter right
away even though he did ask if I was related to you."
"Yes, Dr Harris and I were at the Academy together. We had quit a
time. Actually we created a bit of havoc on our Star Fleet advisor.
He's a good man Katie, you couldn't have gotten a better temporary
assignment than Star Fleet Academy Sick Bay." She said.
"Well if it wasn't for you, I might not have gotten it. Thanks mom."
I said.
"Do you have plans for dinner Katie? If not will you meet your father
and me for dinner? We sure have missed you," the senior Janeway
asked.
"I would love to have dinner with you. Say around 1800 at your
house?" I asked.
"That would be fine. Janeway out" she said and ended the commlink.
