I wrote this in my English class, and I thought it was worthy of being posted. It's about Melinda, from SPEAK.

Please, enjoy.

Would you mind very much, if I didn't talk?

Would you mind if my scabby lips didn't move?

Or if thread was strung through them with a needle?

I wouldn't talk, not at all.

Keep your mouth shut, that's all.

I wouldn't bother with the breath it takes to speak,

And I wouldn't mind not having to breathe.

I could live without memory,

I wouldn't mind having nothing in the head.

Will I go insane,

With all of this on my plate?

What if I talk, will they think I'm lying?

Do I remember what happened at all?

Of course, but is it worth telling?

I'd have to take the stitches out first.

I have to keep this mouth shut.
