In her room filled with paper fans, incense sticks, dried flowers, silk kimono and faded photographs; Sakura Haruno sat cross-legged on her bed while Ino Yamanaka brushed her hair. She was flipping through an old photo album that contained faded pictures of a childhood long gone. Most of them were of her and Ino when they were in high school, but she had a few of Naruto and Sasuke. There were a couple of pictures of Hatake Kakashi who had been their history teacher, and his boyfriend called Umino Iruka who taught math. There were a few of TenTen, her best friend in high school, and there were even a few of her boss, Tsunade Gondaime.

Sakura laughed and closed the album. She set it beside her and ran her hand over the lacey cover. It had been years since she'd been in high school, but it was always nice to go back and remember. It had been in high school when Ino had asked her to be her girlfriend. It had been in high school that Naruto and Sasuke admitted they were gay. It had been in high school that Sakura learned to never take anything for granted because a week before graduation, she had been in a car wreck and had been in a coma for two days. She had woken up to see Ino leaning over her with a giant smile on her face.

"The future is bright." Ino said, and Sakura turned to look at her.

"What?" Sakura asked, and Ino smiled.

"The future is bright." Ino repeated, and she set the brush down on the dresser by the bed. "You didn't think we were going to make it this far, didn't you?"

Sakura smiled and took one of Ino's hands in her own. She brought to her nose and inhaled. It smelled of powder, lotion and flowers. Ino always smelled of flowers. She owned a small flower shop on Shinto Street. Sakura always dropped by to visit when she was on a lunch break from the hospital. Ino would always be pruning some flowers or tying a bouquet of roses with a white ribbon. Ino was always happy when she was among the flowers, and Sakura would sometimes wonder if the flowers thought Ino's hands were soft and gentle just like she did.

"Well? Did you?" Ino laughed, and her laugh was smooth and warm.

Sakura laughed and said, "Honestly? I had my doubts. There were a couple of times I thought we wouldn't make it, but we made it. Five whole years of being with you, and I wouldn't trade them for anything."

"That's so cheesy, Sakura." Ino raised an eyebrow.

Sakura shrugged her shoulders. "What can I say? It's true."

Ino laughed and kissed the corner of Sakura's mouth. Her breath was warm and smelled of the sweet candies that Ino liked to munch on before they went to bed. Sakura let her hand slide through Ino's blonde hair, and it felt like silk through her fingers. Everything about Ino felt like silk—her skin, her hair, her laugh and even her smile.

Over the years, lots of people had called Ino worthless. They said that she fed on gossip and was loudmouthed and rude. They said she would gladly fuck any Tom, Dick or Harry, and then she would leave him in an instant.

However, they didn't see the side that Sakura saw. They didn't see the girl that she fell in love with. They could talk all they wanted, but Sakura loved Ino.

And that's all there was to it.
