A Letter from Red to Blue

Dear Blue,

I thank you for sending me that great letter! I now realize how my homeland has changed since I departed for other lands. Blue, I haven't seen you since the League Celebration the day after I became the Champion. And to start off on a good note, I plan on coming to Pallet Town sometime very soon. I also give the best wishes to all my friends and family in Pallet, especially Mom and your sister Daisy. I will tell Oak about my letter also.

I can't believe it's been three years since I've left! I had some great adventures in the land of Kanto, meeting some interesting people and having battles with you along the way. I watched as my Pokemon grew stronger and I found out what it really means to be a Pokemon trainer. As for what I have done these past three years, I left the land of Kanto and explored all that Johto had to offer. It was a beautiful place (and luckily I didn't have to battle that Team Rocket this time!). I trained as hard as I could and caught any Johto Pokemon I saw. It was a truly mind-altering experience for me.

Ah yes, my battle with Silver. That kid is far stronger than I was at his age and he clearly knows what it means to be a Pokemon Master. I had heard that he had defeated the revived Team Rocket as I had many years ago and knew I would challenge him someday. While I was training on Mt. Silver I was approached by him and without a word we started battling. It was the most grueling battle I ever entered and he just barely defeated me. I was shocked but knew that it is a good thing for a trainer to lose sometimes and it only inspired me to do better. I would like to see Silver again to see how he's doing. As an aside, Silver told me something interesting, which is that his rival, a red-haired boy who stole a Pokemon from Professor Elm's lab, is the son of Giovanni. That would certainly be an interesting thing to investigate and maybe we could find out what happened to him.

Judging by what you told me in the letter, everything is well and good in Kanto. It is unfortunate that the Underground Passage and Cerulean Caves are gone, but it isn't too much of a loss. I am happy to hear that no one was injured during Cinnabar Island's volcanic eruption. I might go and talk to Blaine when I get back to Pallet. Ah, but it seems that there are still amusing things happening in our homeland (that Bill story was great! And I am still in contact with him). I miss that place and will be very happy when I finally come home.

Our battle in the Indigo Plateau... that was my favorite battle ever, Blue. We fought with our Pokemon to the end and you did an awesome job despite the fact that you lost. The battle gave me extreme confidence in myself and it seems that it changed your life also. You seem like a much better person now and I hope we will both continue to be great trainers.

My letter isn't nearly as detailed as yours but I just wanted to make sure you knew some of these things. I don't think I'll stay at Pallet very long, though, because I've gotten word from Professor Elm that one of his friends runs a laboratory in a far-off island named Hoenn. He told me that there are all sorts of new and exotic Pokemon there that have never been seen in Johto or Kanto. Since I can't really stay at one place at once (I think you know this well!), I think I'm gonna catch the next boat that heads to the island. Well, that's about it. I'll see you in a week or so.

Smell ya back,

Red
