Winds of Change
a yaoi love story
Gaara awoke to the rustle of sheets as Naruto got out of bed.
"Good morning," he said.
"Morning Suna-kun," Naruto whispered as he bent down to kiss his lover and friend.
Gaara shivered, nothing but love for the blonde Hokage on his mind.
The two separated and got ready for work. Today was the last day Naruto would be in the sand village for the rewriting of the treaty between the two Shadows' villages. Last night they "said goodbye" before they had to part.
Gaara felt extreme sadness this morning and wished Naruto didn't have to leave. After they were dressed they went downstairs to have breakfast; sweet rolls and black sticky rice.
Gaara stared into his rice bowl, a depressed look on his face. "What troubles you Lord Kazekage?" Naruto asked using the formal title because servants were in the room.
Gaara asked the servants to leave so the two could speak freely. "I don't want you to leave me again Kitsune-kun."
Naruto sighed and said, "We've talked about this Gaara. As long as we're Hokage and Kazekage we can't be together all the time; we just have to make do with what time we do have with each other."
"I know," Gaara said sadly as Naruto came over and kissed him softly and sweetly. "What if I quit?" Gaara said, "Then we can be together."
"No," Naruto said, "Your people need you, they need a Kazekage, a leader."
"Kankuro could take my place. He's stong and the people love him."
"The people love you Gaara. And so do I." He leaned down to kiss him, but Gaara pulled away. Naruto sighed. He walked to the door, paused before leaving, and said, "Do as you wish Suna-kun, but make sure it's what you really want. All I want is for you to be happy." He left the room without another word and left Gaara to make a very difficult decision.
One Year Later in the Leaf Village
The whole village had gathered under the mountain bearing the Hokages' faces. Their present Hokage stood before them dressed well, as were all the other attendees. It was a big day for the village.
Music was playing as a hooded figure moved toward the front of the crowd. He approached Naruto who put down the hood to reveal Gaara's smiling face. It was their wedding
The two stood at the altar before the priest performing the ceremonies. They barely heard the words he said for they were lost in each others' eyes. After they read their vows and uttered "I do," the priest said "You may now kiss." And they did, putting all their love for each other into that single, wonderful kiss.
Over the following years Naruto continued his work as Hokage while Gaara stayed at their home raising their adopted child, Suishoo, a little baby girl. The two lived happily to the age of seventy-two when they died peacefully in their sleep; hand in hand and heart to heart.
