It was almost two in the morning and she still hadn't come home. Did Jenna really think that she meant it when she told her not to come home? Lacey was still pacing throughout the house, frequently stopping at her daughter's room just to peek in and double check she hadn't snuck in under her nose. She wouldn't even be mad at this point if she did. With a final sigh, Lacey threw herself on her bed, waking Kevin in the process.
"Whass the matta?" he slurred out, turning over in the bed.
"She still isn't home Kevin, that's what's the matter! My baby could need me, and I basically pushed her out the door telling her not to come home." Lacey sobbed, hunched over the side of bed. Kevin sat up in bed, taking her into his arms.
"You did the right thing, Lace. You were being a parent; it's called tough love. I guarantee that we'll wake up in the morning and she'll be right there in her bed." Kevin said trying to soothe her. "Now why don't we try to get some sleep, yeah?" Lacey just knew that Jenna would have came home, no matter what. She didn't leave when she found out that her own mother wrote the letter and she wouldn't not come home now. Just as Lacey was finally lying down, the phone rang. Lacey shot up, sprinting down the hallway to the kitchen where the phone was lying.
"Hello? Jenna? Baby, is that you?" she practically screamed into the phone.
"Is this Mrs. Hamilton? I'm Stacey, a nurse from the Mercy General Hospital here in Palos Verde, it's about your daughter, Jenna," the lady on the phone voiced over. Lacey began to panic.
"Is she okay? What happened? Tell me what happened" Lacey screeched over the phone.
"Ma'am, I think it would just be best for you and your husband to get down here as soon as possible. Jenna was attacked earlier this evening outside a club, and we just need you here." Lacey didn't even think twice, she hung up the phone, and grabbed her purse, all at the same time yelling for Kevin to get up. She couldn't even think straight, she didn't know what to grab, should she take Jenna something? What would she need? Was she even still alive? The last thought stopped Lacey dead as she dropped to the floor, this was all her fault, her daughter could be dead because she told her not to come back. The sound of Lacey sobbing was enough to draw Kevin into the kitchen. The sight that he stumbled upon was almost unbearable. His usually put together, beautiful wife was pieces on the floor, sobbing. She could barely gasp for air. Kevin rushed over and knelt by her side.
"Lacey, what happened? Babe, what's wrong?" he asked in a panic, but all he got out was Jenna and hospital. His heart dropped into his stomach, and Kevin felt nauseous, his baby girl was hurt somewhere and he couldn't even think of what to do next. As he tried to pull himself and his wife together, Kevin knew that they had to leave and get to Jenna as soon as possible.
"Lace, babe, we need to be strong right now. We need to get up and get in the car, you know what hospital right? We need to leave now Lacey," Kevin said as firmly as he could trying to get his point across. Lacey in that moment, seemed as beautiful as ever as she stood up, wiped the tears off her face, and summoned strength from who knows where. As they rushed to the car, Lacey was already making a list in her head of the things they had to do when they got to the hospital, calling Jenna's friends, calling Val, filling out all the paperwork, but most important making sure that her daughter was okay and forgave her for what she said.
