Hello everyone! Welcome to Writing Challenge #27, an anonymous Secret Santa fic exchange!
I think maybe half of you were around for the exchange last year? Well, if you weren't or if you've forgotten, here's a refresher on the rules, procedures, and timeline.
(And yes, I am basically copying+pasting what Eve wrote for the last one.)
First of all, what is a fic exchange? A fic exchange is prompt-based, i.e. Person A writes a prompt (look at the example below if you're curious about how to do it), and Person B is assigned that prompt by me via PM. Person B has a certain window of time in which to write the story. When they're finished, they send it to me. Because the exchange is anonymous, I will then post all the stories without the names of the authors. Then this is the fun part: we can try to guess who wrote each one. The final step is the big reveal!
Written for Erika's prompt "Ravenclaw's diadem."
Wit beyond measure.
It was his greatest dream. To recreate the diadem of Ravenclaw. To dive into that pool of knowledge that had no limit.
Her greatest dream was to make him happy.
He was so unlike the other boys she had known. He was... wild wasn't the word. Nor mad. Nor even eccentric.
Xeno was... He was hers.
He was exciting. Filled with more life she had ever thought could reside in one person. Everything he touched became different to her eyes. He made it so. He jumped around their pretty house spreading his different-ness and she would float behind, marvelling at him.
"My pretty little Dream Cloud."
Together they could do it. It had been done before. Rowena Ravenclaw had done it, why not them. Was it so impossible? Their dream.
They were brilliant, of that she was sure. Aren't all geniuses criticised at first? Didn't they call Merlin himself mad? Wasn't Ptolemy ridiculed? Paracelsus sneered at?
And now no one sneered at them. And one day they wouldn't sneer at her either. Or her husband.
They were a force to be reckoned with. He energetic, she sedate. Both with their heads in the clouds.
(Completely stark raving!)
The sky's the limit.
(Mad the pair of them!)
Aim for the moon, you'll land among the stars.
(And their odd child!)
Her Luna. Their Luna. Their baby.
The perfect blend of she and he. Her passion for dreaming, his passion for life. And their brilliance. Oh but her child was brilliant.
That she couldn't bear.
Let them call her brilliance odd. Let them even call Xeno's brilliance odd. But not their Luna. Not their precious child.
"They don't know what they're talking about my love."
Tucking her little girl into bed. Frightening away the monsters with love.
A little mop of dirty blond hair. Two solemn grey eyes above the quilt. A mouth that was both placid and serious. Her intelligent baby.
"They have no wit Mummy."
Her greatest dream was to make them happy.
And how better to do it than to recreate wisdom for all man. To put it in a tiny tiara and let them wear it. Then all the world would know...
They weren't mad.
They were enlightened.
They just had to keep going. Try new things. New charms, new potions, new spells. One would work. One had to work. And she would try them all until she found that one. She would find it. She would recreate Ravenclaw's diadem. For him. For Luna. For them. She would do it.
Or die trying.
