Author's note: Hi guys! This is a Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time fanfic, post-story, plus my first ever submitted fanfic, so please! Tell me how I did. *Orna is my character's name in Echoes of Time and is a female Selkie. The rest, the names are not changed.

A stone's throw
'Hey Orna, you're going to the forest again?' Norschtalen asked. I nodded. Norschtalen, or Norsy, looked with suspicious eyes then walked away. What? I'm not going to a bar or something. I thought, then set off into the forest.
The forest looks just like what it was four months ago. The same trees, the grass, the tranquility, it brings back memories. Memories of Sherlotta. I kicked a random Mu off the ledge (Mu!) then checked the shortcut. Closed as usual, the four eye-square thingy settled in the way. I sighed, went back along the slope, picked up the wooden box( since when was it there? Did that Larkecius put it there?) and threw it onto the rusty switch. The wooden fence disappeared.
I didn't bother the monsters near the water, except the blue and green rubber-ducky and the bat as their Slow spells were exceptionally annoying. I threw the electricity box onto the switch and double-jumped over the spikes. I ran straight through the goblins and into the silent area of the forest.
The lake was still, without the usual glitter and glow of the Crystal Core. I took out the tiny blue fragment of the crystal. I have been hanging onto it for a while now, for no reason. I myself was confused.
'Show me you can stand on your own two feet.' Sherlotta had told me to smash the Crystal Core for her on that very day, and I had done it, with a bucket load of tears being held back. So why am I hanging onto this crystal?
If I am still holding onto the crystal, it proves I am still dependent on her guidance. I am not standing on my two feet.
I shook my head. I had done all this. Why can't I step my last step towards being an adult? I have to prove myself to Sherlotta that I am a true adult…
The crystal fell onto the lake with a slight tink, right onto where the Crystal Core originally was. I turned my back and walked towards the village.
Not knowing a golden flurry of spirits wavering around the piece of crystal as it started to grow.
