Hachi

A little girl once loved clowns. Her name was Toph. Toph and her mother, Mrs. Bei Fong, were walking along down town when they stopped to look in a store window. "Mommy, Mommy look! It's a clown!" Indeed it was. A gruesome looking clown with red hair around the sides of its large head and yellow eyes sunken deep into its pale skin. It had a tiny pink mouth puckered into a smile, almost evil looking. Its yellow teeth looked razor sharp. It held its hand up as if to push some thing. Eight fingers stuck it was counting something.

"Its soo cute! Can I get it mommy? Please?"she said. Her mother looked wary, but finally agreed. They walked into the dark, musty store. "Hi," her mother said"Im wondering ho much the clown in the window is." The man rasped"You can have it for free if you hurry and take it." He sounded eager to get rid of the ugly thing. " Um, okay…" the mother replied as she wrapped up the clown to take home.

When the two got home the little girl took the package and ran into her room. When it was time for bed, the mother went up to her daughter`s room she found her daughter sitting on the floor admiring the clown, who was positioned on her nightstand so that he stared at her while her daughter slept."Don't you want him in the closet, with the rest of your dolls?" The mother wondered. "No. he wants to be out here, not in the closet. He does not like it in there."Mrs. Bei Fong just nodded her head and helped Sarah into bed, and then went to sleep herself.

The next day,Toph and her mother were eating breakfast; Mrs. Bei Fong told her that she was going to be out tonight so Toph would have a babysitter. "But I don't need a babysitter. Hachi will protect me!" "You named the clown?" Sarah just nodded. At seven the babysitter, Katara, came and Mrs. Bei Fong left. Toph and the Katara went to go watch the t.v. Just then, the power shorted out. They went up the stairs to Toph`s room. It was then the screams were never heard.

Mrs. Bei Fong came home that night to see both girls in bed. They were dead, but Mrs. Bei Fong could not tell how it was done. She pulled the covers down and saw the clown in bed between the girls. It was facing up, as to grin at Mrs. Bei Fong. It was now holding up ten fingers.
