Disclaimer: I don't own Big Hero Six.
Tadashi Hamada had an unsent message on his phone. He spent several minutes composing it on Thursday and had attempted revising it on Friday, but the words never seemed to come. While sitting in bed, he agonized over how the meaning would translate. Unfortunately, caution and overthinking came naturally to Tadashi.
On Saturday Tadashi went to support his little brother at the big showcase. His squad of friends helped push the trashcans full of microbots along with him. The trashcans were, unfortunately, a bit on the heavy side and Tadashi silently wondered why Hiro couldn't move them with his headband. The Hiro Hamada support crew had arrived a bit early in order to spread the trashcans around the arena so there was time to look at everything. Tadashi wandered around with Honey Lemon.
Together, they looked at the brightly lit signs and fantastic inventions. While strolling through the booths, their hands kept brushing up against one anothers'. Honey would smile and watch with rapt attention when the inventors discussed the composition of the flame retardants. Honey watched Tadashi's eyes sparkle when the specs were brought up. While the pair walked to the side stage where Hiro would be presenting the microbots, Honey asked if Tadashi would show off Baymax next year to which Tadashi was fairly certain that he would after some kinks were removed.
Hiro was very stoic in his nervousness. Tadashi took his brother aside and told him to breathe. Tadashi heard Hiro practicing his monologue in the bathroom; he'd be fine. Honey decided to give Hiro some homemade jerky so he wouldn't go up on an empty stomach. Tadashi may have neglected to tell Hiro that Honey liked superheated food. The face was worth it.
Hiro's name was called up and the squad started watching him from the front. Honey looked at Tadashi's knotted forehead.
"Hey what's wrong?" she whispered.
"I just really want this to go well," he sighed looking up at the stage.
Honey's face softened as she took Tadashi's hand and squeezed it, "Don't worry. Everything will be great."
Tadashi started smiling as Hiro stepped to the center of the stage. When the microbots swarmed in from every side of the auditorium, he started grinning. He rolled his eyes and Hiro when he went upside down. Tadashi looked at Honey and she smiled right back. He curled his fingers in hers'. They both blushed.
When Hiro's presentation ended, everyone bound over to hug and lavish him with praise. Honey picked him up with ease. She put him down when Krei walked over. Callaghan came and it got awkward with them disagreeing about what Hiro should do.
The nerds walked out and bartered as to who would be giving whom rides over to the lucky cat cafe for food. Tadashi and Hiro left to talk on the bridge. While leaving the group, Tadashi decided that he'd send the text tonight after everyone had gone home in the form that it was in. It wouldn't do him any good to delay it and the timing was the best it could be. He heard the screaming and ran over to the burning building. There were still people inside whose lives were worth more than his own. He ran in.
Tadashi Hamada died from the force of the explosion. His body was cremated from the remains of the building. His clothes burned, including the folded up notes in his pocket and his lucky shirt. All traces of Tadashi were gone.
Tadashi's phone melted onto his hipbone. On that phone was a message no one would get to read:
"Hey Honey! Next Saturday would you like to go to that new Italian place just the two of us?"
