Rated T to be safe- content includes mild swearing and friendship you could interpret as boy love fluff if you had your slash goggles on. Don't like, don't read, it's quite simple. Author's Notes are below. Enjoy!

It just wasn't fair. Rude always wore those shades. He kept himself locked up behind dark glass and expensive suits. Not fair. Reno hated telling a joke or messing up only to look up at his own uneasy grin staring down at him. Just no reaction whatsoever. No smile, no frown, no nothing. He hated it.

Reno packed the supplies into the back of the van, taking care to make as much noise as possible. He hated being on stakeout, and he hated this damn van and he hated—A tin flew open, spilling multi-coloured cabling across the road. Sometimes he felt so... Why did Rude have to be like that? With him?

"Reno."

He didn't reply.

Rude called again, louder, from the front of the van.

Sure, he'd tried to snatch the offending eyewear off before, but as quick as he was, Rude could read him like a book. They'd been on this stakeout for three days, watching the house of some small-time diplomat, and he'd hardly said a word. Usually it didn't bother him, he'd do the talking for both of them, but today, he was too tired to play along. He leant down to pick up the fallen wires, cursing with an expertise only obtained from years of practice. Stakeout was a bitch.

"RENO!"

He felt himself being dragged bodily backwards as a car hurled itself by, horn screeching. The air buffeted him as the speeding vehicle's side mirror passed a hair's length from his chest. It swerved at the far end of the street, barely missing the kerb.

Reno's jaw dropped. He'd been about two seconds away from being a roadkill sandwich. It took a minute for him to realise where he was, whose arms he was in and whose heart he could feel racing against his back. Rude had clearly just realised it too, and the intense pressure around his shoulders and chest subsided as his partner released him.

"Be more careful." His partner growled, "You could have been killed."

Rude's hands were shaking. He'd been worried. Worried about him.

Reno turned so they were standing chest to chest, eyes to chin. His partner's shades were slightly askew, a pair of brown eyes glared at him. He liked those eyes. He looked really worried.

He stretched up, balancing on his toes, glad he had something to look at other than the reflection of his slightly guilty grin.

"Good thing then I got a big, bald guardian angel to save my ass, yo."

Author's Notes

A little oneshot, because Reno and Rude are so cute. Interpret how you will. Reviews and comments make me dance and sing, but please play nice, I'm a first-timer.
