Chapter One:

Fretful Dreaming

It was the darkest night I'd ever seen, and it was also my 16th birth year. I was sitting in front of the fire I had just made when, a shooting star flashed across the sky in a peculiar way. I got up and then, the star grew the brightest it could shine, and flickered out into the darkness. Then, a light shone bright in my cave. I walked toward it, then a voice called out to me,

"Good evening little one."

"Who's there, who are you?"

I cautiously walked closer to my cave.

"I am your mother Jasmin," the voice replied. "I have come to you with a gift and a message." I was confused. Why would my mother bring a gift? "The gift is this sapphire dragon charm. Your sister will bring the message in dreams. I wish you good luck."After that, she vanished into thin air.I'd had a hard day, so I fell asleep easily. Then, the dream came.

I was standing in a forest, dark and humid. It must have been the night, because it was very quiet and barely anything stirred. It was silent, yet peaceful.I saw a my sister sitting on a rock near a river, guessing it was part of the message, I walked toward her.

"Look, "she whispered. "Dreaded things are to come we must stop them. A war is brewing in the hands of evil. Lots of blood will be spilled, many innocent lives to be lost. All bad." She shook her head slowly. I was stunned.

"What am I supposed to do?" I asked.

"Find a dragon, befriend it, bond with it, and save us all.

"But how do I save us?" that was my answer.

"The answer lies in your soul." She answered. Then, she pointed at the necklace in my hand a murmured "That will help you. Now go! You must hurry!" and with that, she hurried me to the rock and tapped my shoulder four times.

Suddenly, I awoke from the dream. The sun was just rising so, I started packing. I packed my feather parka, my moccasins, my grass skirt, water for the journey, moss for the first night and my necklace. I set off for the mountains.

I traveled through the blistering heat, through towering caverns and scorching oasis lands until I came to a small stream. It reminded me of the rest of the journey still ahead of me. It looked like a river of tears, slowly making its way toward the sea. Beside it a burnt out fire, and a small cave with a light in it. My heart beat faster. This place looked familiar, ah, the place from my dream,

"Jasmin? Is that you?" I called. No answer. I crept toward the cave cautiously. I crept closer and closer, then, I stepped on a twig. It must have heard me, for he got up and peeked outside. Thinking it was safe, he crept back inside. I tried to follow him, but I stepped on a twig, again. He spun around, and I ran for the bushes, but he'd already seen me. I ran for it. My heart raced madly, while I ran full speed through the forest. Unfortunetly not fast enough loose him. He was still on my tail. I tried to weave through the trees, it didn't work. I ran through the forest, faster than ever.

I ran until I came to a tall oak. It was probably 50 strides tall. Then, I started to climb. Higher, and higher, and higher I went. Then, I waited. He turned around, then, I lost my footing. Down, down, down I went. I tried to grab a branch, but they all broke. I finally hit the ground. The force and the impact had winded me. I was knocked out cold. All I remember was darkness, cold, pure black.
