Darkness overtook me as I slept restlessly in whatever kind of tree it was. Sleeping among the branches of trees wasn't necessarily comfortable, but it was how I chose to sleep. The less comfortable I was, the easier I would wake if some surprise enemy should show up.
As I dreamed, she showed up. Well, she did in my dreams.
She walked into the open clearing below the tree I was in. She called my name, whispered it actually. I smiled and jumped down, landing on my feet like a cat. I gave her a half-second smile and she smiled back.
"What are you doing out here, Elena?" I asked, slowly walking over to her. She didn't answer.
"Elena?" I asked again.
Elena walked over closer to me and placed her small hands on my chest. She looked up in my eyes and smiled a beautiful smile that actually made me lose my breath. She had never seemed so beautiful.
She looked at me with her eyes of Lapis Lazuli and then she stood on her tip-toes and pressed her lips gently to mine. I stood shocked for a moment before I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her closer. She fit perfectly in my arms. Her hands tangled themselves in my hair and I never wanted to let go, even if I couldn't breath. She was just so beautiful, so perfect, so…
I woke up startled and fell out of the tree I had been sleeping in. I landed on my feet but there was no Elena here. It had all been a dream. Elena would never choose me anyway. She loved my brother too much. My weak, annoying brother. Stefan. If only she could see that she was meant to be mine. Not his. Mine.
I shook my head, trying to clear my head. Why was I having dreams of kissing Elena anyway? Vampires don't kiss. The closest they get to an intimate relationship is maybe sharing a meal. They do not kiss.
Suddenly Shinichi appeared in front of me. "Ready, Damon?" he asked, clearly excited.
"Yes." I said simply, still slightly out of whack from the dream. It had seemed so real, so right.
Shinichi smiled and we disappeared. To Stefan's house to leave the fake diary entry. To trick Elena. To make her mine, like she should be.
