They hadn't really known each other, but he knew she was Caroline and she knew he was Elijah. He knew she was the centre of Klaus' attentions and she knew him and Elena kept on having weird eye sex that probably shouldn't happen.
They hadn't really spoken, but he knew that she insisted on speaking incessantly practically all of the time and she knew that he was kind of quiet, especially when he was threatening someone.
They hadn't really looked, but he knew she was beautiful in a doll-like sense and she knew he was hot in a kind of un-obvious way.
They hadn't really realised, but he knew she was special and she knew he was different.
Everyone else noticed, but they didn't say anything as they watched Caroline knock back shots, whilst Elijah sat next to her carefully sipping an expensive whiskey. They didn't say anything as they watched Caroline ramble about how much she hated Dana Wright, whilst Elijah sat next to her occasionally interjecting his opinion on the matter. They didn't say anything as they watched Caroline steal glances at Elijah, whilst he sat next to her, careful not to let her catch him studying her.
They didn't say anything as they realised the two were perfect together; loud and quiet; doll-like and un-obvious; special and different; Caroline and Elijah.
