The Colour of Dreams

The first time I saw you dance, alone and afraid in the practice room with nothing but the thunder of Madame Gorski's cane and the beat of the music guiding you, I knew there was something different.

It wasn't the way you danced, that raw passion that set the room ablaze with the murmurs of the other girls, there was more to it than that.

Sweat Pea was wrong when she said that the way you danced wasn't personal, that it didn't say anything about you. Even you yourself were a little wrong when you claimed it said was that it was going to get you out of the brothel.

You bare your soul when you dance. All of us do. We do it in tiny little ways, small gestures that show we're crying out inside, pleading for someone to see us and save us. Small things that no one cares to notice anymore because we've all lost hope. Each of us strangled with the knowledge that the doomed cannot save the doomed. But that's what you are, Babydoll. Hope.

When I saw you, I saw life within your soul. The purity we'd all lost.

I don't think I would have cared to look for it myself, to see beyond the swell of your breasts and the thrust of your hips as you dipped and twisted with the rhythm, if you hadn't already shone your light towards me. You saved me from the Cook and for a brief instant you swept me up in your hope.

Now I can see you, beneath the gyrating and the lust of your steps, I see beneath the façade to the defiance in your heart, the part of your soul that refuses to be broken. I see the real you and your radiance makes me hopeful. It makes me wish you'll sweep me along again, that you'll grab my hand, pull me away from my fears and make everything alright with a smile.

I've not believed in much since Sweat Pea and I found ourselves here, but I think I can believe in you.

AN. This was just something that sprang to mind after watching Sucker Punch for the second time, hence the oh so shortness of it. Is it romance? Is it just friendship? Is it merely an observation? I leave it to you to determine.
