"Are you ready, Raphael?" I asked him, my fingers a few milimeters away from the one button that will change our lives.
He hesitated a bit. "Well, uh.. I... I don't know!" He exclaimed, "I've never been somewhere that's actually ours. Well, I mean, except our garden, of course, but- I... I don't know. It's just that... I know you'll create a lot of people, right? What do I do if they try to talk to me? What do I do if they try to approach me? What do I do if they try to take me away from you? What do I do if-"
"Raphael." I cut him off.
He stared at me, as I gazed back at his green eyes. I laid a hand in his shoulder, and smiled. "Raphael, this world was created for you. Believe me when I say, you don't have to be afraid." I tried to comfort him.
"But... but you'll be there, right?" He asked, hope shining in his eyes. It almost hurt to answer him.
"I'm sorry, Raphael, but no. I must stay here and watch over the lives in the world you'll be in. It won't be like our garden. Here, there's just me and you. There, it'll be you and everyone else." He softly grabbed my hand.
"But you're my everyone else! What am I gonna do without you, Blue?" He squeezed my hand a little. "I... I don't wanna leave anymore..." He sounded so small. "I don't wanna leave you, Blue..!" He sounded so scared, he seemed so afraid, before he hugged me.
He sounded small and insignificant. He sounded afraid and childish. I couldn't do much, only hug him, and enjoy his company while he's still here.
He doesn't understand how this feels to me. He doesn't know how I feel about him. He doesn't know how much I love him, like a child of my own. But I know he can't stay in the nest forever.
"Oh, Raphael..." I said. "I know you don't wanna leave me. And I don't wanna let you go either. But it'll be for the best, I promise." I said.
"But... but..." He showed me his sadness. "But I'm afraid! I don't wanna go! Please, Blue, please don't leave me!" He cried. "I... I'll miss you..."
"Shh..." I said, pulling him closer to a better hug. He cried in my embrace as I nestled him between my huge blue wings. It came to my mind the pain we'll both share when we separate. But as I already knew, it was for the best.
So the least I could do was give him words of comfort.
When the light is running low,
And the shadows start to grow
And the places that you know
Seem like fantasy...
He looked up to me as I paused my singing. I could see the message in his eyes, please don't stop yet. How could I say no to those eyes?
There's a light inside your soul
That's still shining in the cold
With the truth
The promise in our hearts...
I caressed his cheek with my thumb, and told him at last,
Don't forget
I'm with you in the dark...
With those last few words, our foreheads touched, what meant, only between us, love.
"Don't forget, Raphael." I softly told him, "don't forget."
He shed one last tear before replying, his tone changing from fear to hope, from worry to relief,
"I won't."
