During those first few days after all the grown-ups died, no one really knew what to expect. Personally, there were times when I was acting automatically, robotically, without thought, even while we were gathering up the bodies for burial. So many bodies, so many people who had came to King Neptune's Isles of Wonder that fateful day expecting nothing more than a fun time with their families; and look what had happened to them.

After they were all dead and disposed of, I don't think anyone knew what to were we supposed to do now. Who was supposed to run a world - or even just a theme park - if there were no adults around to do it?

Our uncertainties were the reason that we were all so grateful when Milo stepped up to the plate and volunteered for the job. That was why no one questioned him, or anything that the Core said, for a very long time. Uncertainty - or maybe it was being so certain that the wrong thing was actually right - was the reason that Zoe, I, and so many of our friends barely made it off of the Isles alive.

No matter what I had expected from Milo and the rest of the Core in the beginning, it sure wasn't what I had gotten in the end. But then again, if there's one thing that I've learned during my lifetime - now twenty years - it's that life rarely turns out the way that you expect it to.

Take Zoe for example. The first time that I saw her, I was ready to write her off as just another hard-nosed goth chic of a jerk. But then I saw her with her baby brother, Sam. She had been as unsure of herself and the future as the rest of us, but she had been trying to keep it together for him, just like I had been for Maddie. And now? Well, now that Zoe and I and our kids are well-established in the colony outside of Isles of Wonder, let's just say that Zoe will soon be bringing another baby into our family, thanks to some assistance from yours truly.

While she and I honestly are excited about having a child together, the pregnancy took us by surprise, another circumstance that we hadn't really planned on happening yet. But that's okay, because, like I said before, life rarely pans out according to our expectations.

The first (and possibly my only) Neptune's Children fic. Sorry that it's so short, but I wrote it last night around midnight, so I'm lucky to have come up with what I did. If you would like for me to write more for Neptune's Children, I do have more ideas, they just aren't priority right now. PM me about them and they might be though! Please review and make my day, since I'm uncertain whether or not I kept them in character here. Thanks!:)
