His grip on the door handle was tight, but the palm on his sweat was making it harder to hold it as he twisted the knob nervously. A thousand thoughts ran through his head, all at once, and he knew there were a thousand things that could be lying behind the door, awaiting him. Could it be the day when Rose Tyler had unwillingly been separated from him? Those countless moments when he stood alone in the TARDIS, having just had Martha Jones leave him or Donna Noble, his only true friend – the one who understood the sad, lonely time lord the most of them all - literally ripped apart from him?

But the questioning was pointless. It could only come down to one thing in the end. However many bad experiences, and terrible past times he had against his happiness encountered, there was only one thing in the universe that caused all of that misery. Only one.

So when the door opened and his eyes averted straight to the setting in front of him, he couldn't help but bear a small, estranged smile upon his lips. Yes, of course. The only thing in the universe that it could possibly be - the most despised yet the most admired; the loneliest yet the most occupied.

He shut the door again, on his only one true fear, on his only one true hatred. He didn't want to think about it, question it, any longer - he knew there was nothing he could do about it. Even the oldest and the kindest man could not defeat everything.

There's a room for everyone. Even you.

Short, I know. I just felt like doing something related to The God Complex, since I found it a really interesting episode, especially from the Doctor's perspective when opening the door. I'll leave you to figure out what it is! :)
