Dahpne had just given birth to David. She was happier then Niles had ever seen her. That was true until the day that she got a phone call. Niles could hear her end of the conversation and she was getting more upset by the second.
"So what will 'appen to er," Dahpne asked.
Niles knew his wife was very upset. She only used her thick accent when she was upset.
"Well yes of course I understand that," Dahpne said, "I'll ave to talk to my usband about it. Can I call you back?"
She listened for a few more minutes and then hung up.
"Dahpne," Niles said, "Darling what is wrong?"
Dahpne motioned for Niles to sit down.
"Remember how we made an agreement that we would share everything with each other," she asked.
"Yes of course," Niles said.
That happened after an argument. He had kept a secret from her and it affected her greatly so they decided they would share everything that was important.
"Niles there's something you need to know. Three years ago when I was eighteen I got pregnant and ad a baby girl. I gave her up for adoption because I thought she deserved better then to be raised by a teenager. I was ready to be a mother."
"That was a brave decision you made love," Niles said.
"Well I got a call from the adopted parents. The mother is sick and cannot care for her. The father died six weeks after she was born. The mother has maybe 10 weeks left."
Niles put a hand on Dahpne's shoulder.
"Oh Dahpne," Niles said, "Darling I'm so sorry."
"Niles," Dahpne said, "I know we just ad David just a few weeks earlier but Gloria is my child too and her mother is dying. She has no family. She'd be an orphan. Oh can't we take her too?"
"Is that really a question," Niles said, "She's my child too."
"Niles I didn't know you at that time"
"It doesn't matter," Niles said, "You are my wife. She is your child. She is as much my child as David is. I love her and I am ready willing and able to parent her"
Dahpne hugged Niles amazed that he was such a warm and wonderful husband. She couldn't wait until he could finally meet Gloria. She would be there in 3 days.
