The Laughter
His laughter fills a room
His pranks are silly and fun
He pulls the trick and snickers
Then turns tail to run.
In the heat of a battle, though
All this does he change
He dons a mask of death
And his actions seem strange.
Day to day, he fights his war
Not of guns but emotions
His soul clinging to life
And fending off these savage notions.
So on and on his two wars rage
Long and hard he fights
His heart trying to hang on
His mind reeling in the plights.
To some he is a silly friend,
Joking as he does good,
But still inside he's deeply torn,
And only laughs because he should.
His manner may be crude
But it's only his attempt to conceal
The hurt, the pain, as well as
The guilt he must feel.
He asks only for understanding
From a person willing to listen to him,
And to care for him, comfort him,
And forgive him of his deepest sin.
Yet he doesn't realize
How much others care
He just needs to see it
To be made of it aware.
Talk to someone, my friend
And you will find
How much you really do have
And how far you've fallen behind.
You are my friend
And will be until the end
I hope you realize how much
On you I really depend.
