Just Human

The bartender watched the human couple enter; hands twined around each other's lovingly, the man speaking. The woman suddenly burst into laughter, the sound exploding over the walls. She kept giggling as the man grinned roguishly, pressed a kiss to her lips. The giggle abruptly stopped.

The turian snorted in disgust. Humans.

The pair, joined again only by the hands now, approached the bar. The woman tilted her head to look at the menu and turned to the man. Closer, he recognised them. Their pictures had been broadcast all over the Galactic Newsnet. Shepard, and the human man... he couldn't remember his name. The news hadn't said they were a couple. Perhaps they preferred to keep private business private.

Though, if the way they'd been behaving so far was any indication...

"Can I help you?" he asked, pushing his irritation at human courtship aside. Shepard looked at her man; he grinned back.

"Two of the strongest you have," she requested. The bartender's mandibles lifted in a grin despite himself. He always liked it when the request was 'whatever you can throw at me'. Reaching under the counter he pulled out a bottle and two glasses, deftly pouring the blue liquid and capping the bottle again. He pushed the glasses at the humans. They took one each, and put their glasses to the other's lips. He rolled his eyes as they tossed them back expertly. They'd clearly done this before.

Whatever reason their union wasn't advertised on the news, it wasn't because they liked to keep their private business private.

"Another."

Again he poured two glasses, and again they tossed the drinks down each other's throats. It made him sick to watch. Fortunately, they moved away from the counter after that and took a seat in the corner of the bar. He continued to watch them, curious as to how two such famous humans conducted their business, if it was any different to the other humans he served. He doubted it was, from their interactions so far.

They were talking quietly amongst themselves, sitting close together, fingers intertwined still. The contentment on their faces warmed him despite the overt display of affection. Watching them, it was easy to forget they were heroes, to forget they were anything but two humans in love. Though they still carried weapons- each had a sidearm on their hip- they didn't appear to be military. They were just… human. Another human couple, like any other.

With a snort at his sentimentality he turned away to serve his next customer. They were just human, for all they had killed Saren and saved the Citadel. No different from any other humans.

And right now, after all the publicity they had received, that seemed to be exactly what they deserved.
