It's not like Mei wanted all this to happen to her. Anyone viewing from an outside perspective would think that she did, judging by her stoic and uncaring nature, most people would think she just didn't care and let it all happen as some kind of desperate attention grab.
In a way, that could have been true. For five years, Mei only held one thing dear to her, her family's all girls academy. Mei knew for years that one day she would inherit the academy and take over as chairman from her father. But now it seems increasingly likely that she will inherit the academy from her grandfather instead, as her father has gone abroad again to tech less well-off children in other countries. Mei has gained a high reputation at the academy, being Student Council President since starting at the school. His absence for a large part of Mei's life has had a good impact on her, it could arguably be the reason why she is always so cold and distant. That isn't to say that all of Mei's recent life had been terrible. There was one thing that shone brightly, reflecting the bright person that they are.
Yuzu.
Yuzu had recently come into Mei's life. Mei's father had re-married. The woman he married ended up having a daughter in high school and in the same grade as Mei. Yuzu is a couple months older than Mei, making Mei the younger sister. At first, Mei disliked Yuzu. Her tendency to show up to school with incorrect uniform, always making a racket during school, sleeping in class. All the things Yuzu tends to do frequently would understandably make her a threat to the Student Council President and her academy's reputation.
But as time went on, Mei began to see the kindness in Yuzu's heart. Yuzu was always going out of her to make Mei happy or even just to get a positive reaction or compliment from Mei. For others, Yuzu's feelings for Mei were no secret, they were plastered all over for the world to see. The one person who failed to notice Yuzu's feelings for Mei, was Mei herself. Mei had kept herself shut off from deep relationships ever since her father up and abandoned her after he divorced Mei's mother.
Harumin, Yuzu's best friend, had noticed Yuzu's feelings for Mei a while ago. The way Yuzu's gaze lingered for a few seconds longer on Mei when they passed in the corridor. The way Yuzu went out of her way to please Mei or make her happy. The way Yuzu would jump at the chance to spend a few more minutes with Mei. But above all, the way Yuzu just seems happier whenever Mei is around. Although, Yuzu has noticed that Mei has been acting strange recently. For example, launching a barrage of questions whenever Yuzu gets home late because she was out with Harumin.
Mei didn't understand what she was feeling. Why did she get so irritated when Yuzu spent so much time with Harumin? Why was she absolutely seething with anger when she saw that Matsuri girl force herself onto Yuzu and begin to suck her face off? Why did she grow more and more annoyed when Himeko burst onto the scene when Yuzu was taking Mei to see Yuzu's father's gravestone? After all this happened, Mei reflected on her own in her and Yuzu's shared bedroom, and she came to a realisation. Mei was finally discovering the details of what it means to fall in love.
