Time has passed. But he is one of your closest friends. In the little time that you have you tend to spend time together. But he has less time for you when those mysterious visitors come from a distant planet far away. You watch him and encourage him as he tinkers with his Podracer, honing skills you can't even begin to understand. And you watch him and you help him because you are part of his pit crew, when he's racing for his life and his freedom. They say he left with a Jedi Knight to train to become one. So you work with his mother, and every few days you see her recording herself, hoping that one day he will find it, and so she records you too. But you don't stop hoping that he will come back.

Time has passed. You're no longer a slave, you've bought your freedom. But your thoughts keep coming back to him because he is the one who helped you earn your freedom. Even when he wasn't there. His mom is gone, bought and freed by moisture farmers near Mos Eisley. You hear from one of the moisture farmers that he has finally come back here. And so you drop everything you're doing and head over to the moisture farm because, you believe he will be there. You believe he will be so happy to see you because he's missed you for ten years. When you arrive at the property you pass a newly prepared grave, and when you look up you can see a Nubian Yacht fly off into space. The moisture farmers tell you you're too late and he's gone. But you don't stop hoping that he will come back.

Time has passed. The Clone Wars are in full swing, but you have no part in it. You just listen and watch the holonet mention his name time and time again. They call him the Hero With No Fear. Part of you even considers telling everyone that the famous Jedi Knight that everyone is talking about was your childhood friend. But you don't. You're an adult now, and you've bought your freedom. There's no need to brag about someone you haven't seen in over a decade. But you don't stop hoping that he will come back.

Time has passed. The Clone Wars are done and the horrific Galactic Empire now has power over the known galaxy. They rule by fear. You are especially afraid of the Emperor's right hand man, Darth Vader, a mysterious and deadly figure. Sometimes, you imagine him fighting Darth Vader, and winning. But that will never happen because you mourned his death long ago. When you hear Darth Vader is coming to Tatooine, you are afraid. Darth Vader leaves behind a dead camp of Tusken Raiders, just like he did. But you know he regretted it afterwards. He's probably dead. But you don't stop hoping that he will come back.

Time has passed. Darth Vader and the Emperor are dead, and the New Republic has replaced the Empire. Darth Vader's daughter came by one day, intrigued by the holocube of him. And you help her. Tusken Raiders torture you like they did his mother, in the name of an angry ghost. The angry ghost that is him. It is then that you finally learn that Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader. But you don't stop hoping that he will come back.

And you have to wonder if maybe he did.
