"So dude, how should I tell her?" Lee asked Paddy one night as they were sitting in the Teens Next Door clubhouse central room. Paddy sat back in his chair and thought for a minute.
"Why don't you ask her to watch a movie with us after dinner, sit next to her, and we'll watch a scary movie. We'll turn off the lights so that she'll be terrified, and she'll cling to you like glue." Paddy said. Lee thought it over and grinned.
"Cool."
They got up and headed to find the only female member of TND sector W, Sonya.
They finally found her in the kitchen, making dinner. They sat down on stools and watched as she hurried around, stirring soup on the stove, mixing fruit in a bowl, checking on a cake in the oven, and talking to her older sister in Sector X, all at the same time.
"Hey Sonya." Paddy said cheerfully. She jumped and turned around. Paddy grinned and waved, and Lee nodded at her.
"Oh hey guys. Hold on a second." She said, turning around and signing off with her sister. She then took the soup off the stove and took a really good looking chocolate cake out of the oven. Then she turned back around and smiled. Paddy heard Lee sigh. 'Man that kid's got in bad.' He thought.
"So Sonya, after dinner, do you wanna watch a movie with us?" Paddy asked. She shrugged. "OK." The boys grinned and hopped off the stools.
"See ya!" she yelled as they exited the kitchen and she returned to making dinner.
The boys ran into the TV room and loaded in a scary movie. Then they went back into the kitchen and sat down at the table. Lee went into the kitchen to help Sonya carry everything out.
After dinner, the three headed into the TV room. Lee sat down on the couch and Paddy sat on the comfy chair. Sonya joined Lee on the couch.
Paddy got up and turned off the lights. Sonya squeaked and grabbed onto Lee's hand. He carefully slid his other arm around Sonya, and even in the dark, he could see her blush.
Paddy sat back down and picked up the remote. The movie lit up the screen and a scream echoed through the speakers.
About half-way through the movie, Paddy got up to get some popcorn. By then, Sonya had tucked herself into Lee's side and was shielding her eyes in his chest. Lee decided that now was his chance.
"Sonya," he whispered. She looked up and he took a breath. "I like you." He said, but his statement was drowned out by a piercing scream. He sighed.
"What?" she asked. He carefully leaned down to whisper in her ear. "I like you." He whispered again. She looked up at him, her brown eyes wide.
"Really?" she asked quietly. He nodded. She wrapped her arms around him in a bone-crushing hug. Then she pulled away.
"I like you, too." She said cheerfully. Then she gently pressed her lips to his for a split-second. Lee was shocked. Then a goody grin crossed his face. "Cool." He said. She giggled.
When Paddy returned, he found Sonya snuggled into Lee's chest with his arms wrapped around her.
"What did I miss?" Paddy asked, feeling confused, but Lee just shook his head.
