*This is a short based on my fan fiction, Resurrection Note. I don't claim ownership for Mello, Matt, and Ryuzaki. However, I do own Juno.
I hope you enjoy~
From the moment they'd met, Mello always seemed hostile and unfriendly. All she'd asked was about the scar on his face, and he lashed out about her imperfections. As Juno lay thinking in bed about that rough blonde with a heavy Russian accent, she couldn't help questioning what makes him so bitter.
"He died so young…" Juno quietly bit her fingernails, pondering what his life must've been like. Tomorrow they were going to get the Resurrection note, along with Matty and Ryuzaki.
'They're both so different from Mel.' She thought.
Matt was always so friendly and jovial; he'd greet everyone with a big smile, and given Juno too many bear hugs to count before. Ryu was at least polite, though he struck her as odd… But Mello was the only bottle of vinegar in the group.
Juno thrusted herself around the bed again and again, unable to catch sleep. She couldn't stop thinking about what he'd said earlier that day.
Matt had just been leaving to buy them their plane tickets so they could go to Vegas to retrieve the Resurrection Note, and the moment Mello made a rude remark, Juno nagged at him. A second went, and they were already insulting each other. It was like a bitter annoyance that wouldn't end.
Juno didn't it, and decided that it'd be better to just apologize and end it.
"I'm just scared..." she told him. And in truth, it her rattling fear did cause her to snap.
"I'm sorry…" she sighed. "You don't know how hard it is, Mello… What must my family be thinking?" Juno leaned her head against the wall, asking her to help them in her thoughts.
"Oh, but I do." He seemed to chuckle.
"At least you have someone."
"…"
'What did he mean?' Juno whispered. All she knew about his past was that he was an orphan of Wammy's House. Matt had told her many humorous stories before about occurrences in the House before when he was a kid. Mello was hush quiet.
'… Very unfriendly, a huge scar on his face, never talks about his past- I'm overthinking this.' Juno wondered.
What was Mello holding inside? Could he have been abandoned in his past? Or abused? That would explain a lot about his enormous burn scar. If that was the case, she would actually feel sympathy for him. Maybe his tough and angry demeanor was to hide something he was feeling.
… Whatever it was, it was clearly haunting Mello. Or at least from Juno's point of view. Maybe he really was just a natural jerk. But she wasn't going to judge him with what she didn't know.
