A small yelp escaped the lips of Dr. Temperance Brennan as she jolted awake; body in a cold sweat as she lay somewhat propped up on her elbows. Red numbers glared at her out of the corner of her eye, uncaringly declaring the early hour at which she had awoken. Her breath still came in quick, short breaths as she tried to collect her scattered mind. No, she was not back in the car as she had dreamt…but where was she? A small movement to her left again made her jump. Her eyes traced the outline of the silhouette lying next to her, and the memories of the night before flooded back into her mind. Booth's apartment. She was at Booth's apartment. Her entire body relaxed upon this realization, and she laid her head back down on her pillow, facing her sleeping partner. She gazed at his formerly concerned, frightened face, which now was home to peaceful features as he slept, his hair tousled from what she guessed was tossing and turning in the attempt of sleep.
She would never forget the feeling of him. How he had held on to her with a crushing force as she clung to him, both fighting the tears of what had almost been lost. How his warm breath felt on her ear as he whispered shaky promises of "It's gonna okay", although she wasn't sure whether he was confirming this to her or himself. How she could see the raw emotions in his eyes as he grasped her hand during the long ambulance ride to the hospital. She bit her lip as she thought of what she could have; what she would have lost had the entire team not united in one last hope of finding her and Hodgins. Before, she had lived in the notion that someday, someday she would tell Booth what she felt. Someday they would live just like the fairy tales promise. Happily ever after. But when their hands had met as he dug for her two days ago, as their eyes found each others for what seemed like the first time, she knew that the someday had come. It was at that moment their bond had been proven. She inched towards his broad-shouldered figure until she could feel the cotton of his t-shirt against her skin, feel the warmth coming from him, feel how real he was. She sighed deeply and closed her eyes, taking in the sound of each of his deep breaths. He was a feeling she would never forget. Opening her eyes one last time, she whispered into chest scarcely loud enough even for her to hear:
"Thank You."
With that, she allowed herself to be lulled to sleep by the warmth that surrounded them, a hint of a peaceful smile still resting on her face. She would never forget.
