A/N II: This is for Cybercat08, who is wishing for more Laura/Kara – Mother/Daughter stories!
A common scene replayed through Laura's mind as she lay motionless staring towards the door.
Kara stood in her doorframe looking as though she had taken a few rounds with a centurion. Laura slowly made her way to the lost looking officer. Kara lifted her head to reveal tear streaked cheeks and frightened eyes. In a barely audible voice she whispered;
'It happened again,
What did I do?
Never ending'
In a single movement Kara was guided into Laura's lounge. She could not help but cry. Her mother's angered voice echoing within her memory.
'You stupid imbecile!
…
It's all your fault!
…
door slams on fingers
You'll learn the hard way, just like I did!!!
…
Laura had the young girls head in her lap. Rubbing small circles on her back, while whispering her mantra continually
'It's over,
It's over,
It's over,
You're safe.'
Kara's sobs slowly diminished and she fell into a dreamless sleep. Laura stayed where she was, never moving. Not daring to wake the traumatized officer.
Now Laura Roslin gazed at the doorframe. Hoping beyond hope that Kara was standing there waiting to be held. However, Laura knew she wouldn't be. Once again Kara was abandoned by a mother. She was standard on a nuclear waste land without anyone to remind her that her nightmares were the past and not the present. Laura moved gracefully towards the doorframe. Leaning against the cold metal she sent a common prayer to the gods;
Goddess Artemis, protect thy young,
Goddess Minerva, bring wisdom and reason to thyself,
Goddess Hestia, return my daughter home.
