Wishes for a New Year
"Happy first sunrise!" Poland loudly shouted from the top of his lungs to the sun, which was only a quarter of an inch off the horizon. He threw his arms up and collapsed on the wood tile of the roof. Lithuania sat shivering beside him as the wind whipped up on the elevated surface.
"Please remind me why we're up here again?" He said through his chattering teeth.
"Beeeecaauuse I'm tryyyying to get ooover my shyyyness." Poland replied in a sing-song tone. "Like, besides what's a better way than celebrating like they do in other in other countries? I'm totally in to that right now." Obviously the cold was not affecting him like it was affecting Lithuania. Trying to take his mind off the cold, he asked Poland a question.
"What's your wish for the new year?"
"To grow a thousand tons to grain this year!" An immediate response. Lithuania couldn't help but smile. It was such a Poland thing to do.
"That sounds ambitious."
"You, like, totally have to reclaim your titles." Yet another very Poland response. Lithuania's smile widened and the wind began to bother him less, although he didn't notice. Then Poland relayed the question back at him.
"Like, what's yours Leit?"
"Oh.. Um.." Now that was something very unlike Poland to say. Lithuania had just expected him to name off the thousands of things he was planning to do but never would. He raked his mind for something to say...
"Uhm.. About that... You know I'm the type of person who believes that the minute you say a wish out loud, it won't come true..."
"Oh is that right? I'd, like, forgot about that..." Poland sighed. Then in an act of realization his soft green eyes widened as he sprang up.
"Oh crap!" he gasped, "I, like, just totally just told you two of my wishes!" Lithuania laughed at his fair haired, droopy eyed friend and watched him fret over 'what if no crops will grow now that I said that!'
"Besides," he thought, "I'd be too shy to say it out loud."
