"Coming down, Buzz?" Neil Armstrong called out from the surface of the moon.
"No, I think I'll stay in for a while. You know me, I don't like going out," Buzz Aldrin joked as he jumped down from the lunar lander, hitting his knees on the way down. "Well, I guess the suits work!"
"Good to know," Neil said as he consulted the checklist on his wrist. "Well, we've used up our 'talk and look around' time, let's get going."
"Right. Well, flag first then. And…" but as they unfurled the United States flag, they heard a noise, engines, they figured, but like no engines they'd ever heard, a combination of breathing and the scraping of two pieces of, something, together. And on top of a dune, something seemed to be easing its way into existence, something blue, like a blue phone box. The two astronauts looked at each other, then abandoned the flag, only partially spread, to hop over to the dune.
"Capcom, we're taking a short detour to investigate a, um, box thing," Buzz reported, his professionalism gone as excitement and terror rose inside of him, nearly spilling over as the door to the box opened, and a man and a woman stepped out along with the light of a much too large room.
"Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, it is an honor!" The man declared, distracting the two men from trying to figure out how the blue thing worked, and why the two people weren't dead. "Really, truly, brilliant. See, Martha," he turned to the woman, "This is why I love you humans! The moon is dead, nothing to use for fuel, no possibility of life, well, not for another fifty thousand years, anyway, but you come and you try and find out about moon-quakes and just because you can, well, because Kennedy wanted to beat the Soviets, but these guys here just did it because it's something to be conquered and wow, how spectacular does that make you? It's just, wow. I'm rambling, aren't I, Martha? See, it's history, wow, this is great, look, I have chills, look, feel!" He demanded, sticking his arm in front of Martha, beaming and bouncing in his strange red shoes. "Isn't that cool? I got chills!"
"That was clever," Martha said dryly, smirking.
"Yes, it was, wasn't it? Anyway, we'll be off, no time to explain, well there is, but you wouldn't want us to tell you all the answers, would you? And actually there's not, those moon-quake readings are going to be important! Trust me, I know."
"Yeah, he does. Bye! Have fun! Tell Gene Kranz we said hi!"
"Oh yeah, and Gunter Wendt! Vere is Gunter Vendt, I love that guy! He's brilliant! Anyway, like Martha said, enjoy the trip! You're going to be magnificent." And the two of them jumped back into the box, which faded out of existence with the same beautiful noise; the astronauts frozen in shock.
"Capcom, did you get all of that?" Armstrong asked when the dust and his heart had settled down.
"Sorry Neil, what?
"You didn't just hear a hyperactive British man?"
"What?" The Capcom laughed
And the two astronauts stared at each other.
Three months ago, the Doctor and Martha were jumping and falling around the TARDIS, laughing.
"See, I told you it'd be fun!"
"Oh yeah, despite the fact that we might've just completely changed time!" Martha exclaimed, the smile still on her lips.
"But we didn't, see, all the people in charge know about me, and if they didn't tell everyone before they won't now!"
"So you're relying on politicians to be consistent. And all of time is at stake," Martha asked, eyebrows raised.
"Exactly!" The Doctor smiled, looking pleased with himself.
"Alright…" Martha sighed.
"Exactly. So, anyway!" The Doctor exclaimed, hopping over to the TARDIS controls, beaming. "Martha Jones…"
Want to go again?"
