FINALLY!!!! A beam of light in the dark of writers block! I finally had an idea! I just came up with this scenario randomly when I was thinking of the scene when Ryuk offers Light the shinigami eyes. Could not resist.
For the first few bits of dialog, I am copying verbatim the English translation of the book, but then I diverge into my very own world of randomness.
Disclaimer: I do not own Death Note, though I have just converted an old note book into one.
"What kind of deal?" Light asked Ryuk skeptically, though he was curious about how much these shinigami eyes would cost.
"The price of a shinigami's eyes is... half of that human's remaining lifetime." Ryuk replied, pleased with the expression on the boy's face across from him.
"...! Half of their remaining life time..."
"Yeah. So if you have 50 years left, that's 25... and if you have just one year left, it's six months. Of course, I can see your name and lifespan right now. If I convert it to human world time, I know exactly how many years you have left."
"Are you going to tell me?" Light asked in a tone that made it sound more like an order.
"Maybe, maybe not. Depends on how I feel."
"What if I want to know."
"Do you?"
"I may have a slight interest in the manner."
"Well then, in that case, I think I'll let you figure it out. In shinigami time, your remaining life is 93312639, 18662528 is equal to about one human second. Now, you tell me. How long do you have to live?" Ryuk asked, a huge grin on his face (which isn't really saying much. I mean, look at the size of his mouth!) Light paused. Realization dawned on his face.
"Wait, that means I have 5 sec-!"
BANG!!!!!
Light's hand flew up to his chest where he had just been shot before he feel to the ground, dead. An officer was standing behind him.
"Inform the chief we have just identified and killed Kira!"
