A/N: Hello all. This is just a little thing I thought up of based on the quote by Maurice Chevalier. Its House/Cameron/Stacy angst, and post Honeymoon. Just drabble.
Forgotten
Greg House sat in his dark and empty office long after everyone had left. A bottle of half-full scotch sat on his desk, along with a near empty glass next to it. He was drowning his sorrows in alcohol once more, certainly not the first time in his life, or this week.
He felt he had a lot to brood about. Stacy coming back, married none the less shook him out of his shell and had him feeling things he hadn't thought he still could. He didn't want to. All it made him think about was the hurt and pain of the last time he felt like this, which caused him to take another long swig of his favoured drink.
House let the drink burn down his throat, but was too far drunk to even contemplate the pain; he felt numb. And not just from the straight scotch.
He may have been able to deal with Stacy being here, may have been able to deal with her working here, if it wasn't for Allison Cameron.
'I thought you were too screwed up to love anyone. I was wrong. You just couldn't love me. It's ok. I'm happy for you.'
He may have been able to deal with this whole situation if she hadn't said those words.
'You just couldn't love me.'
It wasn't that he couldn't. It was because he wouldn't. 5 years of brooding over Stacy had worked well. Sure, he was addicted to Vicodin, and on the verge of becoming an alcoholic, but that was his system. His routine. House would work, save some lives, come to his empty home and drink his sorrows away while tapping on his grand piano. He was comfortable that way. In his shell of misery and self-pity is where he lived. That he could deal with.
House had forgotten what it was like
to love somebody. He realised he still loved Stacy. Always had and
always will. But bitter memories and resentment would keep him from
acting on it.
He'd just mess around with her for a while. That
would help him deal with the situation.
