Prologue

The night air was calm and peaceful. All over Crescent Isle, the crew of the Delphinus was asleep. Vyse snored deeply in his bed. Fina and Aika were also sleeping soundly. Nobody was stirring.

If anybody had been awake at that moment, they would might have noticed the hole that had appeared in Deep Sky about 50 miles off of Crescent Isle.

A black shadow slowly rose out of the gaping maw like a majestic bird rising from its nest. Slowly, the shadow made its way over the Crescent Isle.

Vyse awoke with a start. At first, he couldn't remember why he had awoken. Suddenly, Vyse heard a small bump. Remembering his recent battle with Ramirez, he decided to investigate. Trying not to wake the girls, Vyse crept out of his room and down the ramp.

Vyse took a moment to admire the beautiful bunkhouse and tavern built by his friends. Vyse knew that he was lucky to have them around. He heard the noise again up by the flagpole. He made his way up the slope and looked around. There was nothing there.

He was about to turn back to the bunkhouse and go to sleep when a black shadow fell across his face. He looked up, just as two black figures fell onto him. Vyse reached for his swords, but one of the figures quickly knocked them out of his hands. As one of the shadows moved closer, Vyse saw it drawing a weapon. Instinctively, Vyse kicked the weapon out of the figure's hand. Weaponless, Vyse tried to cry out, but was quickly overtaken by the black shapes. The last thing that Vyse saw before he was knocked out was a cruel face, shrouded in shadow.

Aika ran into the docking bay where the Delphinus was held. She slid down the pole, and then ran up to the loading ramp.

"Aika! Wait!" Aika turned to see Fina running up to meet her. Aika tapped her foot impatiently.

"There's no time to wait! Vyse is in trouble," said Aika.

"We aren't going to help Vyse by running off without knowing where to look. We need some clues," replied Fina.

Aika was upset, but deep down, she knew that Fina was right. She sighed.

"All right," said Aika. "Let's go look for some clues. Also, we're gonna need some help, and I can only think of one man for the job."
