The Good Ol' Days

Condiments

"I'll have a number 5, king size, with a Coke. And four fudge cookies." Nineteen year old Jack Fenton happily announced while glancing at his best friend, Vlad Masters. "How 'bout you Vladdy?"

Vlad thoughtfully scanned the menu one last time before ordering. "I'll have a plain hamburger and a small fry."

"That's it? No cheese, or pickles…or even ketchup?" Jack was stunned by his friends order, usually Vlad asked for a cheeseburger with everything, including extra cheese. Maybe V-man's sick? Jack wondered as he handed the lady at the register a twenty.

"Jack, I'm just not that hungry." Vlad defended as he gathered enough napkins that could keep a room full of toddlers with chocolate cake clean. Knowing the way Jack ate, Vlad figured the more napkins, the better.

After Jack had loaded the tray full of condiments, ranging from salt to ketchup, they made there way over to the booth right next to the fish tank.

"You want some ranch Vlad, you know I always keep a bottle on me at all times." Jack asked as he produced a small bottle of ranch dressing from one of his pockets.

"No thanks Jack, I'm trying to watch my cholesterol intake." Vlad said as he unwrapped his burger. His Doctor had told him that he had high cholesterol. Most likely from all the cheese he ingested on a daily basis.

Jack shrugged as he bathed his fries in the white liquid. After careful inspection to make sure each fry was coated in ranch, Jack popped a few in his mouth, closing his eyes, enjoying every morsel.

Vlad just grinned at his best friends face. He took one of his plain fries, glared at it, before eating it.

In a matter of minutes Jack had consumed his entire meal while Vlad still had most of his left to eat.

"Jack you really should slow down when you eat, you could choke." Vlad stated as he munched on some burger.

"Bogus V-man, why do you think I put a layer of ranch on everything?" Vlad snorted at that.

The two friends chatted about their new Paranormal Psychology class, and the new girl they met, her name was Maddie.

Vlad had one fry left, after lunch they were going to movie theatre. Phantom of the Opera was playing, and both college students were eager to see it, even though they'd seen a million times.

Vlad popped the fry in his mouth, he began to chew, but something went wrong. The fry got caught in his throat. Vlad gasped for air, but none reached his lungs. He was choking.

Jack looked up when his friend begin making weird noises. "V-man, what's wrong?"

Vlad couldn't speak; he motioned towards his throat, hoping his clueless friend would understand what it meant.

Luckily for Vlad, he did. "Hang on Vladdy!" Jack jumped up from his seat, causing his chair to crash to the floor. Jack had learned what to do when someone was choking after his uncle choked on a piece of fudge at a family reunion when he was ten.

In a matter if seconds he was behind Vlad. He wrapped his arms around the smaller mans waist, locating the right area and proceeded to due the Heimlich maneuver.

One thrust, two thrusts, finally on the third time, the fry flew out of Vlad's mouth and landed innocently on the table.

Vlad gasped for breathe, he sat back down and starred at his friend. "Jack…thanks."

"No problem V-man." Jack grinned slapping Vlad on the back. "Just remember that you should always practice safe eating; use condiments."
