Just a small thing I thought of. Kids are sometimes afraid of thunder, but what about Kaldur on his first thunderstorm on the surface?
Thunderstorm
The crackling of thunder rang through the air and Kaldur'ahm shot up out of bed, trying not to be startled by this new sound.
Things were different here on the surface. Back in Atlantis, this sound did not exist. But he wasn't in Atlantis anymore, now he was on the surface, fighting crime with his King Orin, or Aquaman, as he was better known here. On land, he wasn't royalty, but a hero, respected in his own right, but not bowed down to. He was a member of the Justice League, a group of heroes who fought evil together.
Another crack of thunder shook Kaldur out of his thoughts. He looked outside his window just to see a bolt of lightning strike somewhere unknown in the sky, not quite making it to the surface. Fear spread through his body before he could control it. The fear that urged him to go find a corner to hide in, but he could not.
After a couple of minutes, he calmed back down and started to think about the differences between Atlantis and land; On land there was thunder, in Atlantis there was not.
On land, the people spoke in many different languages, while in the ocean there was only one.
As Kaldur wondered about these things, the thunder crackled on, him flinching whenever it happened.
NEXT DAY
The next day, after a night of no sleep, Kaldur asked his new friends what was thunder. Wally explained the science of it, while Roy explained that it was just sound.
Robin, however, was the one to ask why. And before he knew what he was doing, Kaldur spilled his fear of this newfound wonder. He stopped soon after, though, afraid they would laugh at his strange ways.
However, they just smiled at him expectantly, saying that it was normal, that a lot of people were scared of it. In Atlantis, Garth and Tula would have been kind, but they would have found a way to push down a fear so it was out of the way and unimportant. In Atlantis, fear was okay, but was not accepted, especially in military school, where he was before the Royal Academy of Sorcery.(1)
Then his friends started telling him stories of when they had been afraid of something, such as haunted houses or guinea pigs, in Roy's case (no comment was his reply after he stated it). Something that would have never been done in Atlantis, or at least where he was from.
And after that conversation, Kaldur'ahm of Atlantis learned something.
Some things are just different.
(1) I don't exactly know if Atlantis was strict like that, but I kind of just improvised
I hoped you liked it.
Please review.
