This may end up being the place I dump the one-shots and ideas that fill my head up at night. I already have a slim notebook by my bed filled with half started stories centered around my favorite snarky partner in crime. I shall share these nightly thoughts with you, if you do so choose to read *bow*
disclaimer: I own nothing and nothing owns me. Sadly, nothing does not permit me to own Young Justice. *pout*
It is said the sight of a robin will signal the start of spring, but no one told the robin. It comes and goes as it pleases, oblivious to its own symbolic presence.
One such Robin is currently flying over the city of Gotham. The black of the night is barely brightened by the light of the city below, thus the robin goes by unnoticed. It flies past the crime, over the spilled blood red as its own feathers. It flies over the police station, a bustle and hustle. The noise of the sirens drive it on.
The Robin now flies through the dark, until it looks onto a single beacon of light. A large house, away from the rest. A single light is on and an elderly man can be seen tidying up for the night. But Unbenounced to the Robin, another dwells within. One who is currently asleep in his bed, head resting peacefully against his pillow. His eyes slowly open, awakening from his slumber. As his hands press against his tired eyes, the visages of his dream replay themselves in his mind. He had been a bird, a robin, flying over Gotham. Carefree, he flew through the darkness, led on by the little light that remained.
The boy lays his head on his pillow, and is once more captured by sleep. At the same moment, the robin flies on, away from the house. With each wing beat, it leaves the single light behind, in search for more.
But one question remains. Was he a boy who dreamed of being a robin, or a robin who dreamed of being a boy?
Based off a quote from Zhuangzi, a Chinese philosopher, who wondered if he was a man dreaming of being a butterfly or a butterfly dreaming of being a man. If you've watched the anime Black Butler, this will seem familiar to you, for the character Lau states this quote (while he's probably high on opium no doubt).
Until we meet again, my fellow dreamers, until we meet again.
