A.N.- I'm such a sucker for this pairing ^-^

Kairi swung her legs back and forth, occasionally knocking her heels against the paopu tree's trunk. Her eyes admired the promising sight of bright sunshine gleaming over the blue ocean. Seagulls squawked and flapped their wings into the horizon. The ordinary beach birds were as beautiful as doves when the light shone on their feathers. Destiny Island's truly was a wonderful place. A wonderful home. Kairi's grip tightened around the star shaped fruit in her hands. And to think that this was all in danger of slipping away from her forever.

"Hey," the voice went unheard by the girl transfixed in thought. However, a tap on the shoulder caught her attention.

"What are you doing out here?" Kairi questioned and moved the fruit to the side of her lap. The silver-haired teen leaned his back against the curved tree and crossed his arms across his toned chest. He closed his eyes, letting the water's mist brush him.

"I could ask you the same."

Normally, the redhead would have gotten ticked at Riku's attitude and maybe even have thrown an insult his way, but too much was on her mind to feel anything but sadness. The older teen's intuition had been honed throughout his previous journeys. He knew something was wrong with Kairi the moment he got near her. Silence between the two lingered on before Riku found the right words to say.

"It won't disappear, Kairi."

Indigo eyes grew twice in size, "How did you...?" She trailed off, unable to say more.

"We won't lose our home to the darkness. Not again." He smiled a simple smile. And somehow, that little gesture was enough to relax her mind. Her gaze wandered back to the gorgeous view in front of her. A simple smile slowly etched onto her lips. She lifted her legs and rested her chin on her knees, hugging them securely.

"Yeah."

Riku noticed something yellow in the corner of his eye when the girl shifted. "What's that?"

The redhead followed his eyes. They seemed to be looking at her lap.

Kairi's heart nearly jumped out of her chest when she realized what he was looking at. Quickly, her hands grabbed the paopu and swung behind her back. Her face turned a tint of red.

"What's what?"

"That thing behind your back."

"What thing?"

She hadn't even noticed, not even as they argued, how fast all of the worry left her and how a new feeling suddenly emerged inside.
