1. The Man

On any ordinary morning in St. Marys, Maryland, you would never expect to see anything out of the ordinary except for maybe a girl racing past on a camouflage Polaris ATV. On this particular day, she just happened to stop for a family of deer on her uncle's farm.

But on this particular day, this girl's life was going to change.

The girl's name was Susan Knott. She had long black hair, which on this particular day was tied back in a loose ponytail, green eyes shielded by a pair of sky blue sunglasses, and a leather jacket over her strong arms.

She just happened to be looking up, when a black streak raced across the sky. It seemed to stop right over her. She could now see that this 'streak' was no streak at all. It was a motorcycle, with a burly man sitting atop it.

Suddenly, the huge motorcycle fell from the sky. It landed with a large thud.

"Well 'ello there, Susan." The man said in a rough British accent. He had a long black beard with small gray streaks, his hair the same way. He looked taller then any human being, and at least two times wider.

"Uh... Hi?" They girl replied. Her voice had a small southern ring to it.

"You are Susan Knott, right?"

"Yes, sir, but why would, no how, would you know me?"

"Ah, Susan... I knew your parents. Fine couple, they were. Shame they..." With that the huge man's eyes started to water up.

"Uh... My parents are at home..."

Wiping his eyes, the man replied. "Susan... Has anything... Weird ever happened to you?"

"Actually... Yes."

"And do you have an oddly shaped scar on your forehead?"

With that, the girl reached up, touching her lightning-shaped scar.

The huge man smiled. "That scar... It's special. More special then you think."

"Look, I'd love to stay and chat, but my parents are waiting for me back home, so-"

"You mean your adoptive parents."

"What?"

"Susan, you're a Potter. Born to Lily and James Potter. They died when you were only one month old. Sirius Black got you out of the destroyed remanents of the house, and took you to these lovely people, over in America. No one knew about you, not even Albus Dumbledore, until just a few years ago, when on the American news, a girl in a blue dress, who looked about seven, was shown in a zoo, talking to a snake. The girl had a scar that only matches one other in the world. Albus Dumbledore was on a small trip to Connecticut, and happened to see that girl on the news. He also happened to know the only other person in the world with a scar like that. Your brother."

"Huh? Andy doesn't have a scar like this one." She pushed her hair aside, showing the big man the scar she had gotten so many years ago.

The man sighed. "Your real brother, Susan. Come on, you're a smart girl. I just explained it all to you, now piece it together."

"I...I 'm an adopted child, aren't I? And I'm not from here, am I?"

"Nope. And also... Those weird things that have been happening all your life? There's a reason that they seem to only happen to you. You're a witch, Susan. And you need to come with me to London so you can get the proper education."

"Look, I'm only ten. And I'm not supposed to go with strangers, much less talk to them."

"Well, being a witch, you would get to use magic. You would also get to meet your real brother."

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Well... Okay."

The man helped the girl on to the motorcycle, and then he got on himself. The motorcycle rose in to the air, and with that, the vehicle was off to London, and St. Marys, Maryland was normal again.
