She honestly couldn't remember the events that led up to her current situation. Had they been arguing? No, bantering would've been more like it. She could vaguely recall mentioning Benjy Fenwick was looking fit. What had happened after that?
He had moved in closer, invading her personal space. She looked up into his eyes and suddenly Lily had an epiphany. She didn't think of all the times James humiliated her by obnoxiously asking her out in front of the entire Hogwarts population. She didn't think of the fact that he bullied Severus mercilessly and constantly for so many years. She didn't think of the fact that James had refrained from asking her out for a year now. She didn't think of her doubts that he even fancied her anymore.
Her only thought was that she would very much like to kiss James Potter right then. It was a miracle she could form a thought at all. She could feel the chill from the cold stone wall at her back seeping through her blouse and conversely, the heat radiating from the boy standing in front of her. He was so close, too close that it wreaked havoc with her thoughts. She simply couldn't deny the chemistry between the, any longer. She sucked in a quick gasp when James moved infinitesimally closer. Her quick intake of breath drew his gaze and he seemed to delight in her flustered state. He loved to ruffle her feathers; he practically lived for it. Lily was close to hyperventilating when James leaned in closer, eyes twinkling with mischief.
Now, Lily does not constitute as a particularly impulsive person. Come to think of it, she had never ever acted on an impulse in her entire 17 years of life. Well, there's a first time for everything. As Lily came to terms with her decision, her lips quirked up into a devious smirk. James was captivated by the sight of Lily wearing his trademark smirk. It had her look positively foxy.
She wears it well, thought James hazily, possibly even better than me. Taking advantage of a dumbfounded James, Lily slid a hand up over his shoulder and into his unruly black hair. Bracing her other hand on his chest, she leaned in, and touched her lips to his. It lasted but a second, a long, drawn out second.
Then, Lily took off down the corridor. James wasted five precious seconds as the incident caught up to him. Swearing under his breath, he tore after Lily desperately shouting for her to stop and what just happened, was this a dream or... no, this can't be real. He simply couldn't believe that Lily, LILY EVANS, had kissed HIM. Perhaps this was all another fantasy from his traitorous heart and he was actually passed out in the hospital wing after flying headlong into the Quidditch goalposts. Yes, that certainly was a more viable option.
