As I wrote the below one shot, I felt my heart breaking at what the writers of Chasing Life have in store for Leo Hendrie. I think that a lot of people love him and April like I do. However, we know he won't be there long. This one shot is my attempt at giving Leo more of a persona.
I don't own Leo or Chasing Life, but boy do I love them. Let me know what you think.
He knew it was wrong. He knew he shouldn't have kissed her. She was already a frazzled mess as it was. April Carver had just been diagnosed with leukemia and was being kicked hard by the symptoms. He had just gotten out of the hospital where it was made known to her and his parents that he didn't have long to live. Leo Hendrie, son of a politician, terminal cancer patient, and seemingly fearless thrill seeker found himself sprawled out across his bed having an attack of conscience. His mind kept floating back to April and the look on her face when he told her she may not be able to have kids. The joy she took in driving the stolen car. The shock when he kissed her. The shock when she found out his diagnosis. He wished he'd known her before because he was really starting to like her. Life was a bitch.
Since the day that Leo had almost plowed April down outside of his father's office on his motorcycle, the girl kept popping up everywhere. At first, he thought she was following him. A story hungry, blood thirsty journalist out to get a front page byline. He felt a bit guilty when she told him about her recent diagnosis. He was irritated by her need to hide the truth from everyone. Including her fellow Boston Post journalist boyfriend. Then again, he felt somewhat special that he knew. Not that this was a good secret, but he felt like they had common ground. She was the first person he'd connected with in his cancer support group, even though there was some tension between them. He had lied to her.
April Carver understood him to some extent. She knew the pain of lost independence. She felt the fear of the possibility of not having a future. After talking to her about children, he felt that dull ache that he thought he had gotten over. His tumor ruined his life. He wanted the life he had in Paris. When he told April that she would love him, he wished he could have her. That. Leo Hendrie acted like he didn't care. He thought he didn't. Then he met a girl fighting to have what he had lost. He saw her face as he closed his eyes. He dreamed about April. He couldn't wait to see her again.
