Just a quick one-shot for fun.
William Shuster decided that for the day, he'd get out of Lima, Ohio. Years had past since the year Will started New Directions, and the only thing that changed was that he was divorced from his ex-wife, Terri, and now married to Emma Pillsbury, the school's guidance counselor. So as Emma was spending the day with her mother, Will decided to go see a show, rather then spend the day with his in-laws.
So he did it. He went out to New York City, if only for the day. Will loves the City. He loves the setting and sounds and smells, and he especially loves that special feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you're walking in Time Square or Rockefeller Center. But what he loves most of all, is Broadway.
And that's just where he'd be going today. He wouldn't be performing like he'd once dreamed, be he'd be their in the audience. Will went to see his favorite show, Wicked. He loves everything about that show. Whenever he goes to see it, Will keeps the playbills. He always seems to forget where he puts them, though.
Somehow, Will thought this one would be impossible to misplace. Under the page with cast on it, it said:
Elphaba….Rachel Berry
Galinda….Quinn Fabray
Fiyero…Jesse St. James
Will wasn't completely surprised by this though, because he had kept in touch with Finn Hudson via email. Finn had told him a lot. He told him that he had gotten his grades up, went to a good college in the City, and was eventually recruited by the New York Giants, as was Puck-only now he went by Noah. He had told Will that Rachel got into Julliard; he had told him that she and Quinn were just getting closer and closer.
Finn Hudson is like the son that William Shuster never had, and William Shuster is like the father that Finn Hudson never had. Finn had emailed Will before he proposed to Rachel, after their wedding, and after Quinn and Noah's wedding. He had emailed him about becoming a father, not sure what to do. Will gave him the best advice he could, for he didn't know first hand. Now Finn and Rachel email him pictures of their four-year-old daughter, Bella, and Noah and Quinn sometimes send him pictures of their four-year-old son, Nick.
As for Jesse St. James, Finn told Will that he had made amends with the members of New Directions, and now he was a close friend to both Finn and Rachel. Finn said that Bella calls him Uncle Jesse. Bella also calls Quinn Auntie Quinn or sometimes just Auntie, and Noah Uncle Noah, as goes the same for Rachel and Finn with Quinn and Noah's son, Nick.
Thinking of Jesse St. James, Will remembered Shelby. Last he'd heard, Shelby had played the part that her daughter was now playing, right before Rachel took over. Now she was married and happy with Beth and more kids by her side. April Rhodes had her turn under the Broadway lights, too, playing Galinda opposite Shelby's Elphie. The two pairs were neck and neck for being the second best Elphie and Galinda, only behind Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth themselves, of course.
As the show went on, Will found himself chocking back laughter during What is This Feeling? because it was perfect for Rachel and Quinn. At first, they had hated each other, but then by the end of their sophomore year, they were a bit friendlier, and by senior year they were joined at the hip, totally inseparable. Later on, Will was laughing during Popular, and tried very hard not to cry during Defying Gravity, but lost the battle.
Once the show was over and the curtain closed, William Shuster could have sworn that he was clapping the loudest in the whole entire building.
