The Truth of the Situation
Roque sighed and pushed himself up from the couch, heading directly for Jensen's room. Jensen's fingers were flying over the keyboard of his laptop, his head was down and it seemed his concentration was firmly focused.
"No. No and No again." There was a moment's pause and then, "No. I'm not going Trick-or-Treating with you."
Jensen's eyes flitted up for a moment to meet Roque's with a glare. Roque loomed to his full height in the doorway, narrowed his eyes and glared back.
"See and that there is exactly why I'm not going," Jensen said bluntly. "I mean, I know it's Hallowe'en and I know the kids like being frightened, but you .. . You aren't frightening, you scare them all shitless, they don't sleep for weeks and that's not good, man. It's not good!"
"But you like candy. I like candy. We trick-or-treat and we get candy."
Jensen pushed his laptop further away and stood up, arms folded over his chest as he tried to stare Roque down. "No!"
"Do I have to make it an order?" Roque growled.
"Don't even try it! I'm not going!"
"I'm your senior officer."
"You're a senior asshole. Dude, trick or treating is for the kids to get candy."
"You didn't have a problem with going last year."
Jensen shrugged. "Last year is what proved to me how big a mistake it is to take you trick-or-treating."
"So all of a sudden you don't want candy."
"Nope. I don't want candy," Jensen said with a hint of superiority.
"Where's Pooch?" Roque grumbled, turning away from the door.
"Wherever he is, he's not going trick-or-treating with you!" Jensen called after him as Roque stomped away through the house.
Moments later, Cougar appeared with a glass of water and a handful of pills. "How are you feeling, Jake?"
Jensen's glare was gone and he gave sad smile as he said, "The numbness has gone and I don't feel like I'm dribbling everywhere or gnawing on my own lip without realizing it, but with it comes paaaaiiiin." He drew the last word out in a soft whine.
"Here, take these. The dentist said they should help."
