NOTE: This is my first ever attempt in creating any type of story for fanfiction, so I am open to criticism. I really don't care, I do want to create more in the future, and hopefully create better stories as well. So…here goes nothing. PS. I DO NOT OWN RWBY, NOR KILLING FLOOR 2
Chapter 1
Three days
It's been three days ever since the battle that occurred in Haven Academy. Three days since the complete reunion of team RWBY. Three days since the death of both Professor Lionheart and Cinder Fall. Three days since the retrieval of the Relic of Knowledge. All seems well, for that faithful day marked a victory in the war against Salem, but not everything was picture perfect. Since the death of its headmaster, Haven Academy was almost in disarray. With the battle damaging the property around and in the Grand Hall. All huntsman around the kingdom and city of Mistral are dead or have at least disappeared. Finally, and probably the most concerning, is that Haven Academy was without a headmaster. So with big problems such as these, both Ozpin/Oscar and Qrow has been working overtime to set things right, from managing Haven to finding another huntsmen or huntress who is both capable and loyal to Ozpin, to temporarily be the headmaster/headmistress for Haven Academy. But on the bright side, it was still a major victory for the good guys.
But during those three days, for team RWBY and what's left of Team JNPR, and let's not forget Sun and Ilia, it has been a fun, heart warming yet equally emotional three days. For the last three days, everyone recounted the events that led up to the battle, both hardships and moments of good will. Sharing laughs, tears and pancakes. Well what little they manage to get, but Nora was happy to share…some of her pancakes. They were all sitting around the dinner table, having their eating their meals and socializing.
"THAT WAS SO COOL WHAT YOU DID BLAKE! SO MANY FAUNUS WERE THERE, HELPING ALL OF US OUT, THEY WERE LIKE WACHAAAA, AND WAHOOOO!" Ruby said while making karate chop motions in the air and almost spilling her soup in the process.
"I wasn't alone, both Ilia and Sun were there to help me out, and also my parents, I couldn't have done any of it without their help." Blake explained, while eating her tuna sandwich.
"It was still impressive nevertheless, Blake, and we're so happy you came back to us, even though you never knew we'd be there" Weiss said, with the warmest smile coming from the former ice queen. "And thank you, both of you for helping Blake. It means a lot to us that you helped returned Blake to us, again even though you never knew we be there, hehe" looking at Ilia and Sun, giving an awkward chuckle.
"That means a lot coming from a Schnee. Blake has told me about you, all of you, thank you for being there when I wasn't" Ilia said, gesturing to all of team RWBY.
"Hey cut yourself some slack! You're here right here right now, any friend of Blake's is a friend of ours! You helped her out when she needed it, that's what matters the most" Yang said bombastically. Ever since the complete reunion of team RWBY, she has been slowly returning to her old self. It was a relieving sight for everyone, especially Ruby and Blake. Telling the occasional pun, and a tiny bit of teasing. Everyone enjoyed Yang's old self again. As she wrapped her right robotic arm around Ilia's shoulder. With a devious smile, Yang pulled away.
CLINK*
Leaving her arm on Ilia's shoulder. As she walked away Ilia looked in her direction with a confused looked. 'where's her arm!?' She looked at her shoulder to see that said arm was still there. "AAHH!" Ilia jumped as she pushed the arm away. A thump sounded as it landed on the ground.
Everyone started to laugh, especially Nora, who was previously pranked with said arm.
"Ilia! Be careful, it's not your arm! Never knew I'd say something like that to anybody." Blake said, and now deep in thought, but was interrupted by Yang.
"Don't worry Blake, to be honest, if it can't survive a small push and fall, maybe I shouldn't be punching baddies with it". Yang then started to pick up the empty bowls and utensils, "Hey speaking of it, mind giving me a hand?!"
"Uuggh" Everyone groaned, but secretly loved as it's been awhile since Yang has said any pun. Well almost everyone, Ilia actually started laughing.
"FINALLY, someone who gets good humour. Thanks Ilia, you done your cha-MEAL-leon?!"
"UUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH" Everyone groaned even louder, but Ilia just started laughing even harder, who knew she liked terrible puns.
"Okay, okay let's clean up now so we don't get to hear anymore, although I really missed this." Jaune stood as he muttered the last part, and gave a small smile. He starts to collect more bowls, to help Yang with clean up.
As the group of teens started to clean up, the door to their suite opened revealing Oscar and Qrow returning from their workload of securing Haven Academy and Mistral. Qrow made his way to the dining area while Oscar sat down on his chair, ready to explain their next course of action.
"Hey, kids, Oz wants to talk to ya, it's about what's happening" Qrow stated, as he took a quick sip from his trusty flask. The teens all nodded and finished cleaning up. As the dishes were left out to dry, and table was wiped, they all gathered in the common area. Some sitting, some standing, as they all look towards Oscar. For a moment Oscar shifted a bit nervously, then changed his persona into Ozpin.
"Still gotta get used to that" Sun said as he look at Ozpin with awe. As Ilia, also watched with great curiosity and awe. Luckily Ruby, Weiss, Yang and the members of JNR, with permission from Ozpin of course, managed to explain the whole Salem war, magic, and maidens to the new comers, Blake, Ilia and Sun.
"I hope it does not make you uncomfortable, I understand something like this is indeed…" Ozpin paused, searching for the right word to use. A moment later, "… strange." Ozpin said with a warm and comforting smile. His posture straight and professional, as he was during his previous body back at Beacon.
"Not at all, it's pretty cool if you ask me, I just meant that it'll take time to…digest…the…coolness of the trick?" Sun tried to explain, with a nervous smile and hand scratching the back of his head. Blake, Weiss, Ilia, Ren and Jaune face palm, while everyone else snickered.
Ozpin let out an amused smirk. "I appreciate it, now back to the task at hand". He looked at all over the teens. "As you all know, ever since our victory here in Haven, me and Qrow has been working around the clock to assist in stabilizing and securing Mistral. With most if not all the Huntsman and huntresses in Mistral gone, we had to pull some strings to get local mercenaries and more hired guards to defend Mistral and its villages and settlements outside the walls. We also managed to get some senior students from Haven to participate, adding to the forces defending Mistral. But we are still in need for more help."
"That's why our immediate trip to Atlas has to be delayed, maybe for a month or two. Worse case scenario, three. We have to make sure Mistral is more than capable to defend its borders once we leave, we can't let another academy fall. " Qrow explained with a serious tone and expression. Weiss visibly winced at the mention of returning Atlas, after going through so much to escape. Silently wishing to go head anywhere else rather than Atlas. She did voice her concern to everyone at the first mention of Atlas. But Ozpin reassured her that it'll be alright. Much to her dismay. Even with all the reassurance from the others, Weiss was still not looking forward to returning to Atlas. "That's why we're assigning missions to you guys, don't worry just two. There maybe more in the future, we want you to relax, but still practice as school's out. They both involve getting a specific ally that can both help us against Salem and help secure Mistral."
"Team RWBY…" Ozpin turned to the team and clicked on his scroll, forwarding their mission info to the team. "Qrow was able to contact an acquaintance here in Mistral. Said acquaintance informed Qrow that there was a of huntsman and huntress from out of kingdom who recently arrived in Mistral, and are currently residing in a village not far from here. We want you to get in contact with them and see if they are interested in aiding the kingdom from Grimm and bandit attacks."
"How do they look like? Can they be trusted? Not to be rude but after what happened to Lionheart…" Blake said but was interrupted.
"That's why we're sending you, hopefully through good judgement, you can 'evaluate' them. See if they can help." Qrow said, as he took another swig from his flask.
"And if they're not?" Ruby asked, with a concerned look and a finger a bit raised.
Qrow huffed, "Well, think a huntsman and a huntress can take on the full might of team RWBY?" Qrow gave them a smirk, before burping.
Ruby giggled. Yang with one hand on her hip, smirking while shaking her head. Weiss crossed her arms, giving him an unamused look while rolling her eyes. Finally Blake just smiled, missing her teams old antics and shenanigans. They were able to quickly composed themselves as Ruby looked at her team. They all had confident looks, giving her nods and smirks, telling her they can do this.
Ruby turned to Ozpin, "We'll do it, it'll be nice to go out on a mission with everyone here this time." She gave Ozpin a confident yet equally warm smile.
Ozpin looked at the silver eyed girl, seeing a familiarity in her. Her spirit, her drive, almost a renewed vigour, something he hasn't seen in the reaper's eyes since their short time in Beacon. A mixture of pride, hope and relief washed over him, realizing that this girl, who has been through so much over the months, is still the same yet vastly improved, girl that he met all those months ago. After a certain duty robbery and run in with a certain thief.
Ozpin smiled, " I'm glad, now for additional info, your are to head out tomorrow to the train station. Your train will depart at noon. So I suggest that you prepare and get some re-"
There was a sudden knock at the door, interrupting Ozpin. As everyone looked at the door, waiting for another knock to be heard. A few moments later, another three knocks were heard. Everyone glanced at each other, wondering who would want to visit them at such an hour. Quickly but quietly, everyone pulled their weapons out, only giving out a small clicks of everyone readying their weapons. Taking the initiative and being the local guinea pig, Qrow walked towards the door to open it. He slowly place his hand on the knob, and slowly turning it. Opening the at a steady pace and peering through. He first notice a cloak, a dark green cloak that looked a bit ragged and dirtied. As if they've been through a few slums around Mistral. He slowly raised his head to see the figure's face. His eyes widen in confusion, white hair, blue eyes, flawless skin, who ever it was looked strangely like Weiss. Continuing to look, he noticed that her white hair covered her right eye, instantly figuring out who it was.
"Ice Queen?!" Qrow exclaimed.
"Qrow!" the figure said with relief evident in her tone. But then realized who was at the door as her relief turned into a frown with a hint of disappointment. "Qrow…" she said unenthusiastically.
Upon hearing her voice and recognizing it, Weiss relaxed and sheathed Myrtenaster. "Winter!" She called out, walking towards the door.
Winter looked behind Qrow, relief and a sense of peace washed over her as she pushed pass Qrow and walked towards Weiss. While in the process, she removed her cloak, revealing that when was wearing her typical Atlas military uniform with what seemed to be a decent sized backpack.
Everyone else in the room relaxed, while putting their weapons away. They sat down, seeing the two sisters reunited.
In a very unprofessional manner, Winter pulled Weiss into a loving hug, surprising Weiss. After a few tender seconds, Winter pulled away.
SMACK*
While also immediately slapping Weiss in the head. Meanwhile Weiss then relaxed, glad to see Winter hasn't changed, while also noticing a bulge growing in the area she was slapped.
"Boop" Ruby said as she just suddenly appeared beside Weiss and pushed the bulge down.
"That was for leaving no note behind and leaving me and mother worried sick! And also for making me trek all the way here to find you!" Winter said sternly, as she composed herself back to her professional mannerisms. Back straight, and hands retuning behind her.
"I'm sorry Winter! I had to think fast, I couldn't stay in Atlas knowing my friends needed me. Father forced me to leave them, then he took away my title of heiress." Weiss apologized as her head hung low in shame.
Winter's eyes narrowed, "FOOL! I'm not asking for your apology!" Winter quickly relaxed, showing a small smile on her face as she placed a hand on Weiss's shoulder. "You just has me worried, and I know the feeling," Winter said softly as Weiss' face slowly met hers.
"I understand what your going through, needed to be away from father and Whitley, and all those nobles and aristocrats. That's why I joined the military, and because of that, I wasn't deemed the heiress." Winter smirked as she realizes something. "We're more alike then I realized."
Winter looked around the room to see familiar faces, taking a long look at Ilia with narrow eyes. Ilia noticed, so did Blake, as soon as Blake was about to say something Weiss beat her to it. "Its okay Winter, she helped us fight the White Fang, she with us." Weiss said, as she held her arms up towards Winter, reassuring her.
Winter, returning her gaze to Ilia, who only sat there uncomfortably, scratching the back of her head. Luckily, Winter's expression soften, and gave Ilia a small smile along with a nod. Ilia responded with a sigh of relief and a nod too. Before Winter continued her look around the room, Qrow spoke up.
"As much of a sweet reunion this all is, what are you doing here Winter? Last I heard about Atlas, they were closing their borders due to what happened at Beacon, Atlas and the SDC getting a bit of flak. Before you asked, Weiss told us what was happening." Qrow said as he walked across the room and sat down next to a young boy Winter has never seen before.
Winter sighed at the news, "Yes you are correct, as of now, there is no easy way into Atlas. Same can be said leaving. But I no doubt smugglers will find some way in or out of Atlas, isn't that right Weiss?" Winter smirked as she glanced at Weiss, only showing an embarrassed look. Looking back at Qrow and everyone else, "As I was saying, as soon word got out that Weiss left, there was a small panic within the palace. Luckily father manage to calm them down before the public got to hear it. Although he was enraged when he found out." Winter looked at Weiss, "He tasked Ironwood to go look for you, but knowing him, he is a busy man. With Atlas on lockdown and heighten security. But knowing that I wanted to go out and find you, and knowing that I couldn't go leave Atlas, he gave me a 'vacation'," Winter said with air quotations. "So he managed to sneak me out of Atlas, to head to Mistral, where we knew that pilot has taken you. But only to find out the ship never reached its destination." Weiss visibly winced, remembering what happened and what happened afterwards. Yang from behind placed her hand on Weiss's shoulder as comfort. "So I was dropped out on the outskirts of Mistral and was given a cloak to hide myself, knowing that Atlas isn't too popular now. And went on a search for you. Two days later, heard that Beacon students were staying here in Haven, went to see for myself, and here I am." Winter concluded.
A few moments of silence, then Ruby broke it, "Well you found Weiss, what are you gonna do? Take her back to Atlas?" Weiss cringed, knowing after the stunt she pulled, she won't get be on good terms with her family.
"All I said was that I was gonna find her, I didn't say I was going to bring her back." Winter responded. Looking back at Weiss, she continued, "I know you left for a reason, I know what you are going through, I went through something like it. So, as a sister and not a specialist, I want to help my dear little sister."
Weiss was bewildered at first. Winter only displayed her emotions in rare occasions. Of course she knew that her big sister always cared about her, in her own way. She would've thought it was because of all she endured, the battle at beacon, family struggles at home and being stripped of her title, she thought Winter was only pitying her and offering her help. But she then remembered something, Winter was also stripped of the heiress title. Back when she made the decision of joining the military, her father took away that privilege, and almost disowned her at the spot as well. If it wasn't for their mother, who intervened, that might've been the case. She was allowed into the military, where she grew distant from the others, even though she was one of the most popular there. Which reminded Weiss of what Pyrrha had explained to her back at Beacon. A pedestal in which she couldn't get down from. It didn't help that Winter was also the top when it came to her studies and combat. The only problem was that there wasn't anyone like Jaune for Winter. She was isolated from not only her friends but also family. Winter wanted to be there for Weiss, because no family was there for her. Weiss gave her sister a loving smile and quickly gave Winter a hug. Earning another slap from the specialist.
Everyone had a small laugh at the Schnee sisterly interactions. Until a light bulb appeared above Ruby. "I have an idea!" Everyone slowly got quiet and focused on the small reaper. "Winter! Tomorrow we're going on a mission to recruit a huntsmen and a huntress. If you want, you come along! Will that be alright Uncle Qrow?"
"Hmm," Qrow started to scratch his chin. Taking a quick and unnoticeable glance at Ozpin/Oscar, who throughout the whole conversation stayed quiet, already deciding that they shouldn't tell her everything, unless she needed to know. Ozpin giving a small nod, luckily unnoticed by everyone. Qrow looked back at Ruby, then at Winter, before responding. "Sure thing kiddo, if the specialist here is willing to get her hands and uniform dirty," he said as he gave Winter a shit-eating grin.
Giving an annoyed look, "GGGRR, I can get my hands dirty if I needed to" Winter responded.
Qrow returning a sultry grin, "Is that an invitation?" Qrow wiggled his eye brows, then started to chuckle.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHA"
Yang started to laugh hard clutching her stomach as she high fives Qrow. Everyone else in the room then realized where Yang's flirty side came from. Ruby just sat there confused, quietly asking, "What do you mean Uncle Qrow?"
Realizing Ruby's innocence Qrow and Yang started quickly stopped laughing and gave each other nervous looks.
It was the Schnee's turn to give a shit-eating grin, as both Winter and Weiss smirked at the panicking Uncle and niece.
All the while Ruby sat there with probably the cutest confused looks anyone has seen. Like a puppy turning their head from one side to another in confusion.
"Hey guys," Blake said loud enough to get everyone's attention. "This works out perfectly-"
"PURR-fectly?" Yang interrupted.
"I will not hesitant to use scissors Yang," Blake warned.
"YOU WOULDN'T DARE," Yang cradled her hair.
'TRY ME BITCH,' everyone heard as they looked at the source of the voice to see Nora losing interest in the conversation and watching funny videos on DustTube. Nora looked up and realized she caught everyone attention. Especially Yang clutching Ruby's ears.
"Nora lower the volume or pay attention," Ren said.
"Sorry Ren!" Nora said in her cheerful demeanour.
"Anyways, before I was so rudely interrupted. This works out perfectly. Since Qrow said there were two missions, most likely you were gonna split us up into two teams. RWBY and Winter can go on one, while Jaune's team with Ilia and Sun can recruit the other ally." Blake finished, receiving accepting nods from everyone.
"Ill stay for as long as I can for my sister before needing to return to my duties in Atlas." Winter stated in her professional manner.
"Alright, alright we get it." Qrow takes a quick swig. "Its getting late, Ruby why don't you take your team and ice queen back to your rooms and get prepared and we'll rested for your mission tomorrow. Jaune's team, along with Ilia and Sun, stay here for awhile. I'm gonna brief you on your mission. Sound good?"
Everyone nodded as they took their place. RWBY along with Winter went to their rooms, Weiss offering to share her room with Winter. Winter grabbed her cloak and followed suit. Before they got to sleep, everyone prepped for tomorrow mission, minus Winter, who already had everything on her with the backpack on her back. Luckily everyone was able to restock on all their needs in Mistral, the city of course. A day after the battle in Haven, they all had an outing, restocking and just relaxing, from the taxing days leading into the battle and the battle itself. Right after everyone was prepared, team RWBY went to their respective rooms where they all quickly fell asleep.
After saying their goodbyes and receiving good lucks, team RWBY and Winter boarded their train, and set out for the village of Meade. On the train ride to the village, they managed to finally and privately socialize, as they once did back on Beacon. Some small talk, jokes and teasing occurred, before they moved on to some more important details, team attack names and manoeuvres. All the while a cloaked Winter sat on the window seat just enjoying the scenery Mistral has to offer. All the times she travelled during the job, she never really took the time to stare out the window. Well, in the context of just enjoying what the world has to offer. She was in her own world during the ride. She let her sister to talk to her teammates, as she knew she missed them dearly. After discussing each other's newfound strength and weaknesses, the topic moved on to their actual mission.
"So who do you think this huntsmen and huntress is?" Yang asked around. Piquing Winter's curiosity. Winter was already informed about what happened at Haven, and their mission to help stabilize and secure Mistral. Thanks to an annoying briefing from a certain irritating bird. Anyways, she didn't exactly get the opinions from the people she was going into the mission with. 'This should be informative' Winter thought, as she turned her attention from the window to RWBY.
"I don't really know, I mean, everyone knows the CCT is still down. Ps. I really hope they fix that," Ruby said, turning her head to face Winter.
"It takes time Ms. Rose," Winter began.
"Ms. Rose, kinda like that." Ruby said, thinking about it, before shaking her head and returning her attention to Winter.
"As I was saying, it takes time. As you all are aware, all the CCT towers around Remnant are connected, and rely on each other to keep the web online. Although since the fall of the CCT tower in Vale, as you may know, the whole Web fell. Simply put, even if the Vale tower was repaired and working, we'd still need to send technicians to the other three towers to repair the CCT, then the web will come back online." Winter explained.
"RUBY! I ALREADY EXPLAINED THAT TO YOU, WEREN'T YOU LISTENING?!" Weiss screeched.
"I'm sorry Weiss, it's just your sister…um…explained it a tad bit…simpler…then you." Ruby quickly said the last bit then gave a cute smile, hopefully one that ensured her that she wouldn't be on the receiving end of a slap on the head. Courtesy of Weiss.
Weiss only sighed in defeat, while Winter just gave Weiss a comforting Pat on the shoulder.
"Back to what I was saying! Since then CCT is still down, we can't get in contact with them, nor can we get any more info other than what Qrow's acquaintance said. Which makes it harder for us to understand who were facing. I hate uncertainty," Ruby muttered the last part.
Blake looked up from the book she was reading, "Ruby, one of the things huntsmen and huntresses are trained to do is to adapt to the situation quickly. I'm sure we'll do fine."
"Hell yeah!" Yang exclaimed as she pumped her fist in the air. "NO ONE CAN STAND THE FULL MIGHT OF THE NOW REUNITED TEAM RWBY!"
Weiss smiled, remembering how much she missed her teams antics, "And let's not forget we have an Atlas specialist here with us, top of her class and deadly." Weiss proudly said as she gestured to Winter.
Winter smiled, "Yes, and thank you again for electing me to lead in the talks to try and convince them help aid Mistral."
Before their train ride, it was agreed by everyone that since Winter had experience when it came negotiations. Whether it was convincing criminals and terrorist to let go of some hostages, to convincing Ironwood for a raise.
"Yeah well, it's mostly because we don't want to say anything wrong and mess up the whole thing, hehe." Ruby said, with a nervous/embarrassing chuckle.
"Yea, and when things goes sideways, we can just blame you." Yang said to Winter, who earned a scowl from both Schnees.
"You really are Qrow's niece aren't you." Winter deadpanned. Earning a grin from Yang.
An hour later of small talk and comfortable silence, they arrived at their destination. Where they were greeted with a nice scenic and modest village. Meade has a population of 500, and are famous for their delicious mead. It was a peaceful village with the occasional Grimm attack. But ever since the battle of Haven Academy, Ozpin and Qrow were nervous that since Salem clearly lost this battle, they'd face the wrath of the Grimm Queen. They feared for more frequent and more severe Grimm attack all over Mistral. But with the help of Qrow and Ozpin, they managed to get hired help to properly defend any towns and villages outside the walls of Mistral. It's no different here, since this village is one of the ones closer to Mistral, Meade managed to get reinforcements rather quickly. There were more guards patrolling around the village, and the team managed to see a handful of mercenaries here and there. They also notice how the walls are undergoing an upgrade, attaching metal plates to the outside surface.
"So where exactly should we meet them again?" Yang asked after a few minutes of walking.
"Let's head to the local bar, that's the usual place to look for unwinding huntsmen and huntresses." Winter explained. As the group turned a corner, "and we're here." The group arrived at a decent sized bar, the building itself wasn't anything special. Large windows so anyone could see the activities inside. The bar counter itself was at the left side, they could clearly see there was only one person manning the bar. There were very few patrons, as expected, not many would visit a bar in the early afternoon. There were also forms of entertainment around, a large television on the wall opposite of the counter, a billiard table near said TV, and a jukebox, well that's certainly is old.
"Wonder how many times these windows were broken from a fight" Yang said as she placed a hand on the windows.
"Come on, let's just get this over." Weiss led the way with Winter into the bar, followed by the rest of RWBY. Weiss looked around, until she headed over to the bartender. "Hey excuse me!"
The bartender noticed them and walked over. "Aren't you girls a little too young to be in an establishment such as mine?" He said with a questioning glare. "Well except for you, you look old enough, but still. Doesn't hurt to check, identification please." The bartender looked at Winter.
Winter shock her head, "Actually, we're here to look for a huntsmen and huntress. Apparently, they are staying in this village." Winter said her professional manner.
The bartender looked at her strangely, before chuckling a bit, "Well Ms. Civilized, I luckily know where they are, I'm guessing you guys are here to hire em, eh?"
The group nodded.
The bartender smiled as he gestured them to follow him. They went down the counter to a door beside the bar. As they walked through the hall, they notice which rooms were which. A storage room here, a janitor closet there, and a small lounge, most likely for the bartender(s). They reached to the end of the hallway, with three doors labeled for VIPs. They stopped at the second door, where the bartender pulled out a scroll, started to type something out. After a few moments his scroll beeped, with a nod, he gestured the girls to enter the room.
Coming into the room, they first notice how spacious it was. A table large enough for eight people sat before them, although empty at the moment. Further into the room were three couches, all surrounding a small coffee table. To the left of the room was another TV. Said coffee table all kinds of booze and shot glasses. The walls of the room was a shade of light red, and a circular light fixture was on the ceiling, lighting the room. There was no one in the room, as they all entered, the bartender closed the door on them, not even looking into the room, expecting the duo to be in there.
After being in the military for awhile, Winter's instinct kicked in, as she suddenly had the odd sensation of being watched. She scanned the room again, this time more intently, and saw something peculiar. There was an odd distortion shimmering in front of the booze on the coffee table. Quickly looking left and right, she saw the same distortion to the group's right. Remembering something.
"Illusions," Winter said out loud, quickly RWBY remembered something. A certain mint haired girl.
Winter quickly pulled out her sword and slashed the distortion to her right, hearing the satisfying sound of metal meeting metal. But still seeing nothing but the barely visible distortion. Yang quickly followed along and saw the distortion the stood before the bottle. With her right hand she fired at the distortion, quickly a figure appeared trying to take out her revolvers but wasn't fast enough. The round hit her straight in the chest, launching the figure straight through the wall and outside.
The distortions disappeared, revealing a very annoyed Mercury with his foot contesting with Winter's sword.
"Damn I knew it, booze does have an affect ." Noticing how RWBY all took their weapons out, Mercury said two words that summed up his situation. "Oh shit…"
The bartender was now outside his bar, looking at a newly made hole in the wall. With the one huntress he saw, slowly getting up and recovering. Not a moment too soon an explosion and a bit of gun fire occurred, and a second hole appeared. The huntsmen who went through the second hole collided with the huntress, knocking both of the down. That looked liked it hurt.
Back inside, Winter and team RWBY were about to exit the bar when sirens started to sound across the village. Not a moment too soon, the girls headed outside, and saw people running and screaming in two different directions. They made their way through the village, reaching the centre. One of the nearby guards in a more intricate uniform, was commanding the other guards and mercenaries to specific areas to hold and maintain while giving evacuations orders. Winter, assuming he was the commander in charge of this garrison, approached him.
"What's happening?" Winter demanded in her authoritative voice.
"The Grimm, a massive horde of Grimm is heading this way! A dozen goliaths as well stampeding towards this town! We're trying to evacuate the town, but people think they can wait it out in the Grimm shelters." The Guard said. He took a glance at the teens and Winter. "Are you guys huntsmen?"
Team RWBY and Winter nodded, as Winter herself took her cloak off. With a sigh of relief, the commander continued. "Listen, my men and the mercs can hold off the majority of the Grimm attacking. All I need you guys to do is head to the Grimm shelters and redirect them to the train station for Evac. You know with a stampede of Goliaths that this village has no chance in surviving, maybe seeing huntsmen helping evacuation efforts will convince them it's better to leave then stay put. Understand?" The commander asked.
"But we can fight too you know!" Yang said out loud, with a hint of enthusiasm.
"I know you can, and most likely you can. But my men won't be able to keep all the Grimm out, some will find their way in. In that case do your best to hold them off. You guys have the most important task, evacuating the civilians and keeping them safe in the process. Ok?" The commander said in a surprisingly calm voice, considering the chaos around.
RWBY and Winter nodded in understanding. After asking the way to the shelter, and receiving a handheld transceiver for updates, they made their way through the crowd. After a couple minutes of jogging pass through civilians, they managed to reach the shelter. The shelter had a good amount of people hiding with hopeful looks and thoughts of waiting out the attack. Winter spoke up, trying to convince them that waiting for the attack to pass would be suicide, and evacuating would be a wider option. Many were hesitant, as the teens and specialist realized that they didn't want to leave their home behind. Winter managed to get the point across that no matter what they will do, the town will get destroyed either way. The difference between the shelter and evacuation was whether they'll see the light of day ever again. Saying that really got people moving as they all rushed out the shelter and towards the train station.
"This is the huntress team, we managed to get the people moving to the station, they'll be there soon. We comi-" Winter ducked behind a crate, and team RWBY were trying to find cover as gunfire rain on them. A peak later, they saw Emerald reloading her revolvers and Mercury fast approaching. "DON'T WAIT FOR US, IF WE'RE NOT THERE WHEN EVERYONE IS ACCOUNTED FOR, JUST LEAVE!" Winter yelled into the radio, just when the commander was about to respond, the radio was shot out of her hands. Landing on the ground with a destroyed casing and smoking bullet hole.
"How noble," Emerald mocked as she started her approach closer to the team.
"You both must be dolts, it's five against two, how do you stand a chance?" Weiss asked.
With a snort, Mercury replied "Actually, you're outnumbered here." With that all so confident grin on his face, he was about to make his first move, but then the sounds of walls crashing and collapsing was heard. Looking at the distance, the Goliaths were able to break through, realizing there wasn't anyway out, with Emerald and Mercury along with Grimm, beowolves and ursas, blocking the way to the train station, Ruby called for a retreat into the forest.
Winter then realized that the Grimm were not attacking the huntsman and huntress. 'What the hell?' she thought.
With hundreds of Grimmm hot on their tail, Winter along with RWBY were running full sprint across the forest. Every once in awhile they'd turn around and let loose a bit in hopes of slowing down the horde. With Ruby shooting back using Crescent Rose in its compact sniper form. Weiss and Winter were using their glyphs to give everyone a temporary speed boost and fire elemental projectiles at the Grimm. Blake using Gambol Shroud's pistol to fire back or pot shots at the incoming horde. And Yang, well, shooting blindly and a bit recklessly behind her in hopes of hitting something.
Leading the group, Ruby spotted a cave they could possibly use to lose the horde in. "Um…Weiss! Winter! Can you guys summon anything to distract the horde long enough to reach that cave up ahead?" she shouted back.
"Sure thing," Weiss said.
"Yes," was Winter's only response.
The Schnee sisters turned back, and stabbed the ground using their swords. While in front of them, two different glyphs appeared. Weiss summoned that large Atlas Knight she fought against, earning her a scar from that day. While Winter was able to summon a massive Nevermore. After summoning them, both Schnees turned 180 and headed for the cave, as the summoned knight and nevermore fought the horde to the best of their abilities.
Upon entering the cave and running through it for a minute, the Schnees stopped as they found RBY. But they also found a dead end as well. Looking for another way out, they begun to panic.
"You dolt! We're in a dead end!" Weiss exclaimed.
"I'm sorry, I thought we could've found a way out and 'cave in' the cave from behind, so we'd be home free…apparently not…" Ruby hung her head low in shame.
"What are we gonna do now?" Yang asked.
"What else can we do? We're gonna have to fight our way out." Blake firmly yet hesitantly stated. With a hint of nervousness.
All the while RWBY were getting ready and arguing a bit on what they're planning on doing, Winter continued looking around. Swearing she saw a light blinking. She dug into the soil out of curiosity, and saw the source of the blinking light. A weird cylindrical device with a large spike on the bottom, as if you planted it on the ground. On top of the device there was a weird 'H' symbol, with its background slowly blinking a blue light. All of a sudden, it started to emit a loud pitch beeping sound. Weiss noticed too as she approached Winter. Weiss held out her hand, noticing the gesture, Winter place the device on her hand, and examined it herself. It was then Winter noticed a shimmering effect happening right above said device. Fearing the worse, she grabbed onto Weiss, pulling her back, causing Weiss to drop the device. Upon making contact with the ground, a bolt of blue electricity shot out of the device. Now above the device was a large blue circle, large enough to walk through it. Curious but not reckless, luckily she reminded herself, Winter grabbed a stick from the ground, and stuck it through the circle. After a few seconds, she pulled it back, revealing that it was unharmed.
Turning back to the group, "Okay, you may not like what I planned but it's the only way out. We can't kill all those Grimm, there's too many and we'll get too tired to even make a good dent. Plus the hostile huntsman and huntress we'll need to get through as well. I suggest we go through." Winter stated.
As she said that, the portal started to grow and shrink in random intervals. Seeing as they don't have much time, Winter quickly gestured, "Come on, we got to move or we die." As she finished, she jumped through the circle.
All of RWBY hesitated, frightened at what might happened to them. Until they heard the Grimm roar as they entered the cave.
"Don't have to tell me twice," Yang stated as she quickly picked up Ruby and ran for the portal, quickly jumping through it.
"Better than dying ," Blake simply said as she too jumped through the circle.
Last was Weiss as she felt the most uncomfortable with the decision. Let alone the situation. Another roar sounded as the first of the Grimm appeared, charging at her will ill intent apparent in those red eyes.
Weiss panicked, and quickly without another thought jumped through the circle. Conveniently, a split second after Weiss jumped through the blue circle shrunk until it didn't exist anymore. But the cylindrical device remained there.
Bright, bright lights, it was a bit too bright. Maybe she's dead, or on her way to the afterlife. Ruby then realized she was on her back staring at the lights above her. Quickly getting up, she was met with the sight of her team and Winter getting up. Managing to take a quick look around, they were in rather large hangar like room. On their left seemed to be windows peering into what looked like a control room of sorts. To the right of the windows was a door, guessing that lead into said control room. On the adjacent wall to the right, so straight ahead was a wall that had that strange 'H' symbol that was on that device. Right below the symbol was a set of double doors. The space around them contained a few crates and computers. If Ruby had to describe the room, very scientific. Then she heard gun fire. Looking at her left, and followed by the others, they spotted a man wearing some sort of lab coat, glasses and sporting a moustache. He looked like a scientist, and said scientist was holding what looked to be a revolver, taking shots some sort of thing. 'What in the name of Oum is that thing?' Ruby thought.
He was shooting what looked like a naked hairless humanoid creatures slowly but surely stumbling towards said scientist. Upon firing the sixth shot, the gun clicked, indicating it was empty, as more and more of those zombie like things started to make their way towards him, and the girls. Right when the girls were about to engage, the double doors burst opened revealing a figure. Clearly a male, he had black combat boots, blue jeans, a leg holster that contain a double barrel sawed off shotgun. He was wearing a grey zip up hoodie with a tactical vest. The vest contained another holster, this time for a pistol, and a few pouches for ammunition. He was wearing a sling backpack, what looked to be tactical gloves, and the identifying part of him, was that he had a ballistic mask on, with his hoodie on. He was carrying a rifle that Ruby nor the group has ever seen before. Before they could react, the figure aimed his rifle at the humanoid creatures and started to fire. In semi automatic he was nailing each creature in the head, with the heads popping and exploding every time the bullets made contact. RWBY and Winter looked in horror as the gruesome display raged on. With brutal efficiency, the figure reload his weapon, ejecting a magazine, which he flipped out, causing it to fly and landing right in front of the group of girls. Winter took the initiative of placing herself in front of the young huntresses, extending her arms wide to protect them. Winter watched as the figure accurately killed those…those creatures, part of her actually was impressed with the skill that was being shown. As the dust settled, the figure looked at the scientist, who was standing with his arms up, shaking. The figure aimed his rifle towards the scientist.
"You Jason Wazowski?" the figured asked, rifle still aimed at the scientist's head, who name is apparently Jason Wazowski. Jason hesitantly nodded.
"GET DOWN ON THE FUCKING GROUND RIGHT NOW OR I'LL BLOW YOUR FUCKING BRAINS OUT AND FEED EM TO THE ZEDS, YOU GOT THAT MOTHERFUCKER?!" the figured demanded as he stepped closer to Jason. The girls visibly flinched at sudden raised voice and vulgar language. So much so the Yang place her hands over Ruby's ears. The scientist quickly followed the instructions and got on the ground. Quickly the figure cuff Jason and place a black bag over his head. As he was done, and quickly pulling Jason up to his feet, the figure then turn and notice the five girls, who were watching him. All of them with various facial expressions. From fear, like Ruby, to caution, like Weiss and Winter. Blake remained silent with a curious look, while Yang was trying to comfort Ruby. All the figure muttered were three words.
"Wait…the fuck?"
Note: So that was the first chapter of the my first fanfic for this story. Thank you for reading, and hopefully you'll follow along in the future. I'm sure you understand that when it comes to stories that we're reading, we hate waiting for an update, to see what happens and blah blah. So I'll try my best to make it a weekly update. I already got the majority of the story planned out, all I need to do is add the the small parts and the in-betweens of the major events. Also type it all up. And I apologize if there are any grammatical or spelling errors that you spotted that I haven't seen. I'll try my best to see them and correct them. When it comes to perspectives, I plan on doinh it in first person when it comes to the OC. But when it comes to RWBY and Winter, it'll be in third person. Anyways, see you guys and the flip side!
