Disclaimer: I don't own the walking dead
This fanfiction is based off of the deleted scene from season 2 judge, jury, executioner when Carol comes over and talks to Daryl. Instead of her walking away and him not admitting he cares there is a different turn of events.
"Did it hurt to punch the guy?" Carl asks Daryl. Daryl glances up at him for a moment. "I've been hurt worse." He says in response. "You too buddy." Carl laughs. Carl stands there for a moment. "Can you teach me how to shoot that?" He asks, gesturing to Daryl's crossbow. "Yer arm ain't long enough." Daryl says. "Yeah it is!" Carl protests. Daryl shakes his head. "Stick to guns, it takes less skill." He says.
Then Daryl notices Carol coming. "Where's your old man? Why don't you go pester him?" Daryl says and Carl sighs and nods and walks off. Just as he is gone Carol reaches him. She holds out a white towel. Daryl stares at it for a moment before taking it. "Did you get what you wanted?" Carol asks, "Approval, thanks…couldn't hit me so you beat up a kid? Is that who you are now?" "He ain't no kid. Do a lot worse than hit you if you gave 'em the chance." Daryl says.
Carol shakes her head. "That's not what this is about and you know it." Carol says and Daryl gives her that look he always does. "What do you want me to do? Huh?" He snaps. "I don't need this." He mutters. "Don't pretend like you don't care! You want your friendship back, take it. Every kind and smart thing you've said take it all back, I don't care I've loss worse." Carol says, shifting in her place where she stood. Daryl looks away. "But don't come out here and tend to your bloody fists and pretend you don't care." She says and starts to leave.
"Why does it matter to you?" Daryl asks and she turns back to him. "Because I care." She says. "Care about what?" Daryl asks. "Don't do this. Don't play dumb. You're smarter than that, I know it." Carol says. "Of all the people you choose me, you should have been carin' abut yer daughter, not me." Daryl says.
"Sophia has nothing to do with this." Carol says. Daryl doesn't answer. "Fine." Carol mutters. She turns and starts to walk away. "Hey." Daryl says and she turns back again. "What, do you have some other thing to say to make me feel terrible about myself?" Carol asks. "Okay so say I did care. What difference would that make to you?" Daryl asks. "Because I would know that I have at least one person that cares about my well-being." Carol says. "All of us care about yer well-bein'" Daryl says. Carol looks down. "Yeah sure Daryl." She murmurs.
"What?" He snaps. "If I died it wouldn't make a difference to anyone." Carol says. "It would make a difference to me." Daryl says and Carol looks at him. "I thought you didn't care." "I never said that." "You basically did Daryl." Carol says sadly. "I'm just gonna go." Daryl reaches out and grabs her wrist.
"You don't get to do that. Jus' walk away. That's what ya do every time." Daryl snaps. "So then what do you want me to do?" She asks harshly. "Jus' don't opt out, ya hear me?" He says, his hand still wrapped around her wrist. "I never wanted that." She says. "Than what did ya want?" He asks. Carol looks down and then back up at Daryl. "You." She whispers where the wind almost carries her voice away.
Daryl squints at her and neither of them say anything. "I mean I-I—" Carol starts to say, but then Daryl slams his lips her to her, pulling her close. When they break apart Carol stares at him. "I do care." He says. Carol just nods. "I know." She says finally.
Sorry about it being so short. Tell me what you think :D
