Chapters 1 and 2 have been rewritten.
This Aang story is focused on what would happen if some of the stories from tLoK (the Legend of Korra) happened When Aang was 14/15. This first instalment of (hopefully) a 3 'book' series will focus on the Harmonic Convergence. This is my first fan-fiction ever and if you are looking for Zutara then you are looking at the wrong place.
NOTE: This will by no means be a carbon copy of tLoK and there will be many changes throughout. While I will be keeping the main plot the same everything else between will be completely different, be prepared for more near-death experiences and more action then the original series boasted due to no 'filler chapters' as such.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own AtLA or TloK
Book 4 - Change
Chapter 1 - Desolation
Aang enjoyed it when there was a light breeze in the air, he loved the feeling on his bald head. It helped calm him, being in nature in general calmed him. On a typical day he could spend hours just sitting peacefully, watching the world go by, so why couldn't he do it now? Guru Pathik used to say that a clear mind is the key to achieving inner peace, and his mind was anything but peaceful. So much had happened since he was brought out of his deep sleep by Katara nearly 2 years ago, too much for his still young mind to contemplate. He now tended to sleep much less to avoid his nightmares and the comfort of Katara wasn't possible as she was down in the southern water tribe.
"Hey Aang? Can I talk to you for a second?" Zuko was standing by the front door, he took a few steps forward than hesitated as Aang didn't reply
"Aah Spirits!" Aang cursed, clearly frustrated over not being able to meditate, "Sorry Zuko, did you speak?"
"I was just asking whether I could have a word with you about something that's been on my mind,"
"Sure, come sit." Zuko sat down next to Aang, playing with a small circular flame between his hands
"I've never really had the chance to speak to you about what happened a few months ago. I feel it has just been burning up inside of me,"
"It has with me too, it is one of the reason why I have been able to enter the spirit world since,"
"I should have never asked for you to promise to kill me if I turned into my father. I should have thought more about your beliefs, and the burden it would make you carry,"
"I was initially not going to accept, but seeing the seriousness you had in your face I knew I had to for your sake. We all make errors in our judgement, but that's what makes us human. I don't see you differently whatsoever Zuko, but I think it has hurt us both mentally."
"Thanks Aang, it really means a lot. How have you been coping since? I've noticed that you haven't been the same ever since,"
"I don't know what it is, but I've been thinking much less opportunistically and I've found myself thinking about the more negative side of things a lot more." Aang chose to hold back about his progressively more frequent nightmares. The only person to really know about them is Katara,"
"Anyways, I think Iroh summoned me for a drink at the Jasmine Dragon, he's been trying out some new tea recipes, do you want to come along?"
"How could I say no?"
"Morning Pakku!" Katara called,
"Good morning Katara,"
"Is Gran-Gran feeling better today?" Gran-Gran's poor health was the reason why Katara and Sokka were down in the Southern water tribe. She was getting old and she needed to be cared for. Pakku was often helping out their father, Chief Hakoda with the day to day affairs that a rapidly expanding village entailed, Leaving Katara and Sokka to care for her.
"I think she is over the worst of this illness now, I think she is actually going to make tonight's dinner!"
Sokka's ears pricked at the sound of food, "Ooh, that would be awesome!"
Oh how I miss flying on Appa, this is so uncomfortable, Toph was travelling back to Ba-Sing-Se from her metal-bending school, The current set of students were largely incapable, and she decided to disband the school for 3 months to reconsider her options. She was looking forward to seeing Aang and Zuko again. Compared to her and the two water tribe siblings they had been much more busy, forming Republic City and reorganising all of the fire nation colonies was no small task. She had sent a letter a day before to them complaining about everything, and challenged Aang to an earth-bending battle. She missed being able to easily defeat Aang as it is now more of an equal match, even if Aang still resorted to more defensive tactics.
Aang and Zuko had sat down at the Jasmine Dragon to enjoy their Ginseng tea when a messenger hawk promptly flew into the door, literally. Feeling rather sorry for itself, it hobbled towards Zuko. Aang chuckled as the bird proceeded to sulk its way out of the door. "Great news Aang! Toph is on her way back to Ba-Sing-Se!" Iroh overheard the conversation and smiled broadly. Ever since Iroh and Toph met after Toph abandoned the 'gaang' after an argument with the 'Sugar Queen', the two had grown rather inseparable. Toph shared the same passion for tea as he did and was always suggesting new recipes, something he was very grateful for.
"Aang, I'm probably being paranoid as per usual but the New Ozai Society hadn't launched an attack for nearly six months and I have a bad feeling they are planning something big,"
"You are probably right, I've been thinking the same thing. We cant prepare for it any more than we already have so unless we find out more information there is no point in contemplating it further,"
"Are you ready for round one of our tasting session?" Iroh called as he walked in with a tray full of tea,
"What we got first Uncle?"
"This is a blend of dragon flower and mint, I have to say I think this might be very successful"
"The aroma is a little off-putting I must say, but never say never!" Aang said as he poured the greenish liquid down his throat. He thought back the urge to gag and spit it out. Zuko on the other hand wasn't as respectful, spraying Aang and the table in a spray of green droplets.
"No Iroh, that isn't going to work whatsoever!" cried Aang, laughing hysterically.
Toph arrived at their apartment the next morning. Nearly breaking down the door, she screamed "Twinkletoes! Fire Lord Hotmen! Wake up and let's go!" Within minutes she had both them, still half asleep, in front of the house. "Lets go for a walk shall we? We have a lot of catching up to do!"
"Can't you not give us just 5 minutes to fully wake up?" Yawned Zuko,
"With neither me or Katara around you two have got awfully lazy, let's go!"
They were walking across the palace gardens, Toph had spent the past 15 minutes complaining about how boring her life was in the past six months, and was wishing she could do what they were doing constantly,
"Trust me, you don't want to. You have no idea how hard it is to have a diplomatic conversation with..." Aang was cut short by the blaring sound of a tsungi horn off in the distance,
"ITS AN AMBUSH!" Toph yelled..
AUTHORS NOTE: this edit is significantly different than the chapter 1 that initially came with the trilogy. After writing chapter 3 and 4 which in my eyes was miles better than what I had written here, I decided to update it.
