A/N: Well, here it is! Something I wrote at 10 at night! I hope you like it and that is makes sense!

"Are you ready for a party!" Sirius screamed, and the crowd went wild, throwing their drinks up in the air.

It was at the annual back-to-school Marauders party. Basically, everyone was sloshed. Sirius was dancing (quite badly) on top of a table, serenading girls. Remus was talking to Clancy a Ravenclaw, while nearby Peter was talking to some Hufflepuff girls.

But James was outside the mess, wondering how he got to be Head Boy. What did Dumbledore think he could do the job? He wasn't worth it! He wasn't responsible! Sure, he was smart and got O's on his exams, and sure, he had been captain of the Quidditch for the last two years. But that doesn't mean that he should be Head Boy!

"Potter?" a small voice inquired from the top of the stairs. James turned around to find Lily, standing at the top.

She was wearing a knee-length black skirt and a light green sweater with sparkles on it. She had heels on, too, and they clicked down each step as she approached James. Her hair was down, and it was quite long as well, reaching the small of her back. It was pinned back with a white butterfly clip, matching nicely with her auburn hair.

"Hi," he replied meekly. He scooted over to make room for her.

"What brings you down here? I thought you'd be with Remus or Sirius or Peter. You should see Sirius, he's a riot!" She laughed, tilting her head back. James loved it when she laughed. Her hair would swish from left to right, and the sides of her eyes would crinkle. James smiled.

"Why are you so down? It's a Marauder party!"

"I don't know. I hate to be a downer, Evans, why do you think Dumbledore made me Head Boy?"

Lily reached over to grab his hand. "Is that what you are upset about?"

Smiling gently, she continued. "James Potter, for all these years I've known you, even when you were an arrogant git, which you still are, by the way, you've been a leader. When Hogwarts was dull and boring, you lifted everyone's spirits and brightened the day. Hell, you're even captain of the Quidditch team! You're a leader, Potter, and you know it, and I think that's why Dumbledore made you Head Boy."

"You should write speeches," was all James had to say. Lily laughed and released her hand.

"That's all you got out of it?" She laughed. James really loved her laugh.

"You have a nice laugh." Lily blushed and turned away. "I meant what I said, you know. And also, I have something to ask you."

James nodded, as if telling her to continue. "Can we be friends this year?"

James raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

"I mean," Lily sighed, fumbling with her fingers in her lap. "I mean, no bantering or rude comments or hexing. Just mates."

"Well, if you insist on being mates…" James replied, wiggling his eyebrows.

"Not like that," she replied giggling, taking her hand away.

"Fine, fine, friends it is." James took her little hand into his big, calloused hand. And they were friends.

Well, how was it? Awful, I know. Anyway, reviews are rainbows after rain!
