It was early morning in Hyrule, the rising sun giving an even glow over the rolling hills and landmarks. It had been 7 years since Ganondorf's demise and order had returned to the land. It took a while; Years of re-building, re-homing and settling back in. Princess Zelda had taken charge of this campaign to restore the area. After all, her Father was sick and had been so for 3 years. She didn't like to think about what would happen when the King was no longer around.
Yet none of this land could ever be returned to its state without the help of a certain young man. His name, of course, was Link. The Hero of Time had saved everyone, including Princess Zelda, from a grim fate. He did not stay to bask in the rewards and praise, however. Navi, a beloved and dear friend, had left him. He cared for her with all his being and she simply…vanished. His efforts to find her remained in vain. She had disappeared of the face of the Earth, not even to be found in the strange land of Termina.
He didn't give up hope.
7 years after he had stopped the Moon from crashing into Termina, he returned. Finally. Maybe, just maybe, his fairy friend had returned to Hyrule, to look for him in return…? The idea of it nagged at the back of his mind, begging him to comply. If he did find her…Well, life would be perfect. He would have everything he needed. Epona, and his best friend.
The field was silent as, with people still enticed by the welcoming arms of sleep. A single 16 year old and his horse were not necessarily a sight to see if you hadn't lived here long. But anyone who had been put through the toils of Ganondorf's rein would instantly recognize the signature uniform and weapons; it was their own very symbol of hope. Link had a stop to make before continuing his search. It felt obligatory, after 7 years of next to no interaction.
His face was indifferent as he the castle gates lowered, while the guards face changed into one of disbelief to one of utter mesmerisation.
"T-The Hero of Time-" He managed to stutter out as Link simply plodded on past, Epona giving the guard a snort at the very least. The horse still believed her friend to be awfully rude sometimes.
The Market place had already begun to fill as he continued onwards; he didn't have to worry about asking people to move. A path was created as people stared in awe, shuffling out of the way. He didn't seem to care much. He didn't seem to care about anything these days.
Guards didn't even wait for orders and opened the gate without question. It did not surprise the young hero. Part of the reason he left was because he simply couldn't take the pressure of being admired so much. Why did kids look up to him? For fulfilling a fate he despised, one he didn't want in anyway shape or form, but was forced to complete? What was the world coming to?
Instead of these usual thoughts traversing through his head for hours, even days, something came to his mind that he attempted to avoid for years. Yet here he was, thinking of her, looking right at her.
She acted very much like she did when they first met as kids. A small turn of the head, ears twitching at the approaching sound. She ever so gracefully span on her heel at whatever it was getting closer, and froze. A thin, pale hand was placed over her heart as she stared up at the boy her mind had been stuck on for years.
"Link…"
The worlds rolled off her tongue like they were just meant to be, carrying to his ears in the soft breeze. Her face was soft in expression, but a frown was evident among her pretty complexion.
"…You came back."
Her words were riddled with confusion and she tilted her head, expecting some kind of long winded answer from the fellow teenager. All she got from the Hylian however was a simple nod, accompanied by a small smile.
